I mean, the whole Retro-Future Buccaneer thing, I kind of get...
Who wouldn't want to live in the 27th Century, where everyone dresses like Prince, and handsome young pop groups zip around the galaxy in sleek spaceships, solving crimes!
But who the heck thought four guys, dressed as female pornstars, was an idea worth realising?
Thankfully, I was busy having children and raising those babies to pay too much attention to the decade of the 80's....
Then grunge came and saved us all.....killed the hair bands and the rest of the 80's nonsense in less than two years.
Thank you Nirvana, Alice in Chains, SoundGarden, Pearl Jam, RHCP, STP, NIN, Jane's Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, REM, etc.
The 80's weren't all bad though...Stevie Ray Vaughn!

Yeah, I'm 6'2" and certainly don't need 5" platforms, but that's what we wore.
I wore shoes like this in 1974

I went with the 6" platform shoes. I drove a stick shift Mustang with a clutch while wearing them. Hey, I was cool or so I thought I was.
When I think of the beginning of glam and the crossdressing/androgynous thing, the first people who come to mind are Marc Bolan, Bowie, Alice Cooper, and New York Dolls...then Slade, Mott the Hoople, Iggy, Roxy Music.
Elton adopted the trend in 1973 and carried it to new heights for a few years after that.
In 1973 I liked to wear my ugly green platform shoes to my Catholic High School to defy their dress code... at the end of the year the letter that was sent home telling my parents I was not invited back for junior and senior years, included a list of constant infractions including the refusal to follow the uniform dress code and haircut regulations along with smoking cigarettes out by the football field before class every day, that pretty much ended my Catholic School enrollment.
I was so happy I had won that battle and got myself thrown out, went to public high school for the next two years and never broke a rule because the rules were not idiotic.

Ex wife and I attended a Bowie Birthday Bash about 10 years ago. I have accumulated a modest collection of interesting yet impractical shoes
