She had a lot of talent. What a loss.
Reminded me of Sun Ra. Saw him live with his Arkestra twice, once in Madison in the mid '70s and once in Chicago in the early '80s. He was great. Everyone in fabulous African dress and playing original African instruments in addition to more traditional instruments.
The Section was The Troubadour house band, they made everybody sound their best, their opening sets alone were the stuff of legend. Gregg Allman did a 'payback' week c'74 and you forgot about the ABB with them backing him up. the next nite (after his first encounter with Cher) he ambles onstage to a stool for a solo slot, sits precariously with his hair hanging in front, and with a grand swipe of his arm, he, his hair, his Martin, his blue denim bells, and his cowboy boots went backwards onto the famed stage where he slept it off to cheers of his fans.
