Adios, David Lindley, you done your job well!
this recollection by a friend sums Dave up as the classic good guy;
When my Bigsby triple neck steel was stolen along with about 80% of the bands gear out of the van (in broad daylight) Lindley heard about it via his daughter. When I got back into town she called me up and said ''My Dad has a Rickenbacker triple neck and wants to know if you want it?''. Big Sandy and I were out the door in a flash, he was only about 20 mins away. I think we were both a little nervous when we arrived, but that soon dissipated after we were greeted by Dave. He treated us like old friends, a very warm and funny man. I wished I had gone back later and grilled him on some of the stories he told us about Doc Kaufmann and going to see ''Speedy & Jimmy'' play live on KXLA in Pasadena. He was into everything we were into! Finally at the end he says ''well here's the guitar, I wanted to just give it to you, but Rosanne thinks you should pay for it (he rolled his eyes at her), so I tell you what, I payed $100 for this in 1973, just give me my money back . God rest his soul.

Wow. How did I not know that Carl Radle was in that band?! I can remember playing "Just My Style" on guitar when it came out in '65.

David first caught my attention in El Rayo-X and later found out he was Jackson's guitar player. He gave a great performance at Wolftrap with Jackson Browne and a small club Jammin' Java that is also in the same area. He had a wild assortment of stringed instruments at both shows. The Oud was a cool one among his other crazy lap steel guitars. Here's one of my favorites from El Rayo-X. I think Bob Glaub is playing bass on this track, IIRC.
