Sorry, but putting a split pickup in it does not, in any way, make that a "P-bass".

Nice work, though.

Was looking through the thread, and got this quote stuck in my craw...

I realize this may bring the wrath of many a TBer... but I agree with this quote... and I'd also say that just having the P-Bass body shape does not make a bass a P-Bass...

To play Devil's Advocate; I'd go so far as to say if it wasn't made by Fender, and it has anything other than the traditional P-Bass split-coil, it's not truly a Precision Bass; but, rather, a P-Bass variation... Thoughts?

And... DEBATE!

I feel there is much truth in what you say. I'll add the single coil P to the fold, too, because that was the original Precision Bass. I agree on the variation too - and that's not a bad thing.

For instance, if you head to the P5 club, there are some 5ers that I feel shouldn't qualify as a P5 - stuff with dual humbuckers like this:

They posted it in the P5 club simply because it has a P body. Doesn't mean it's a bad bass - but I don't feel it's a true P at all. I'm guilty of this too, as I have a G&L L5000, a variation on a 5-string Precision, with a slightly different body shape, Z-pickup, etc., but it's still really close to qualify as a P5. It's next to the Fender P5 on the right:

Thanks to Pat Wilkins, my SeaFoam green Carvin from Page 6 is now Burgundy Mist Metallic and now looks like this. In person, the color totally brings out the abalone.

This is my other Wilkins creation: A matte Candy Apple Red ancient wood Roadtested model in a from NAMM earlier this year. Both these basses have Pat's pickups in them. I need to take some outdoor shots of this one....

I dunno if either is 'The Coolest Looking P Bass' ever, but they are both pretty stunning in person.
