Cort B5 element vs StingRay 5 HH

i found an amped ba-108 v2 which has a kickback shape, and has a ton of good reviews.

the thing is for the same price I would buy a cheap head I can get this combo and I can still use headphones if I want to, I rather spend these 130€ now and then get a better than I could afford now head and cab, because I feel like if I buy a cheap head I will have to upgrade later too so I rather have something take I can practice with and without headphones now. I’m not sure if I was clear with my explanation ahaha
It's always good to have a small combo like that. For backyard jams, etc. I had a BA-108 and it was really good, and deep. It's not a horrible idea to get one but if I HAD to choose....

Are you sure there's nothing available second hand in your area? Because S/H is what I'd recommend. For example, a rig similar to my old Peavey Mark VI had and 15" cab sold locally for what I paid for the small Laney new. This would work as a practice and small gig rig; I've done 1500+ gigs on mine and it's nearly 40yo and still going strong.

I'd also look at Thomann's website and see what they have as they're cheap, shipping is good in Europe and they have a good range.

I also have one of these wee beasties that I'll plug into and either use my headphones or plug into my stereo and wander around and practice with. Cost about $US75 new late last year. There are similar units from other brands.

Yeah i've been looking out for second hand stuff but there's nothing decent. All the bass amps i can find are way too overpriced... Same price as if they were brand new

And yeah i plan on buying from thomann

That little thing looks awesome to be honest! Wonder if i can find one

Slightly off-topic, but here's my take : if it's just for solo practice, you don't need the wattage or volume, instead of a cheap combo amp, just get a practice headphone with a tuner, line input and a few amp and can simulations. Way better than playing at bedroom volume in my opinion, you'll be able to hear the nuances much better, and will not hesitate to dig in without worrying too much about your surroundings. Also saves some money for the bass, strings, strap, case, whatever. Have fun :hyper::bassist:

That's an interesting option, but i'm not sure if i understood it correctly, what do you think i should get? Just a tuner and headphones?

Some sort of multitool unit that has a headphone out, line in, tuner, and some tone-shaping capabilities (most importantly preamps, cab and amp sims, effects are an added bonus).
Look into cheap Zoom units for instance (b1four is <80€ new, crazy value for the money)

Cort B series always sound bright and clear to me with stock daddario string. No matter Bart MK1 pre or markbass pre, I found she lack the low I looking for.

The D’Addario strings are why you aren’t getting the low end you want out of the B series. I have four of them, have been doing a long term experiment to find out which string gets the most out of them. Turns out it’s Rotosounds. You won’t be missing any low end on your Cort B bass with Rotosounds.

DR Hi-beams are another good string for the B series basses, you get all the tone, but they are a far more “polite” sounding string than the Rotos I normally use. There’s a place for that sound, so I always keep one of mine strung up with DR (usually my BEAD tuned bass, DRs DDT sets are really nice) and the rest with Rotosounds.

what gauge would you recommend? 45?

Yep. 45-125.

I plan to get an Element B5 myself in a few months. Going to send it off the great Bruce Johnson here to have one of the guys he’s working with take the fretboard off and convert it to an unlined fretless.

I was considering the regular B5 - its a fine bass but the string spacing is a bit narrow for my tastes. The Element is 18mm string spacing at the bridge, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I have never played a Cort. I do have 40 high quality basses. I gig with a MusicMan Sterling. They are incredible basses, they feel good in your hands and sound amazing. A top quality pro level bass. Never played a Sterling by Musicman though.

I just looked up the US price of the Cort bass. It sounds like a good player based on the comments here. For a non-pro player I am not sure its worth the extra money to get the Stingray unless you find a great deal on a used one. You may be better off spending cash a nicer amp.

The stingray i mentioned is from the sub series, so it's on the cheaper end and i feel like it's not as good as the cort
