Cort Curbow 4 is it good?

Okay, I've already kind off decided to go for a 20 years old Korean Spector NS2-B when my friend told me his friend brought in a line of Cort.

The specs look intricating to me, luthite body, ebanol 27 frets, mk1 barts, barts pre amps and made in korea for just $250?
It surprises me.

Maybe I should get the Cort instead of Spector?

What do ya think?

I heard from youtube, the cort doesn't seem to cut it in the mix, doesn't have that punchy, rounded tone like the Spector. But I don't know, the specs and price still look good. :p

I heard from youtube :p

Possibly not the best source for audio clips to evaluate a prospective purchase. Youtube audio ranges from "bad" to "enhanced interrogation technique." Cort Curbow is great for the $$, they are a little awkward for some sitting down, but if you can stand up to play that's not a problem. Some people are too manly to play a small bodied bass with unusual styling. Note that the guts are not US Bartolini, but the lower cost import stuff, same price point as EMG HZ, etc, good for the $ but not as good as the high $$ US stuff. 3 band active electronics should get you in the ballpark for whatever tone you're after. Play one to try it out, play the Spector, decide for yourself. Never do anything solely on the advice of an internet "expert."

I tried one and liked it quite a lot. It definitely has a more modern sound, but was pretty tonally flexible. The one problem I couldn't live with is the short lower horn, which makes it impossible to play sitting down.
I've tried the Asian Spectors and didn't think they came close to the feel and sound of an American made one. But for $250, either one would be a good deal.

i've had a cort curbow for about 6 years now. and i still think its fantastic, the neck is unbelievably quick, and its extremely comfortable to play (while standing!). its rather hi-fi sounding but with the 3 band EQ you can find a nice fat.

for the money they are excellent, well, in my opinion anyway!

For the money you spend, it's a tough act to beat. If you're the kind of guy who plays their bass siting down with the body between your legs, this bass is a lifesaver.
The sound was far superior to other sub $300 basses with active electronics.

That said, I have a hard time believing that it would be flat out better than a Spector. If you have the opportunity, try both and see what YOU like.

I own two of Greg's basses and when he offered the Cort's on his website a few years ago, I purchased. I have a lined fretless. For under $500 it is not a bad bass. It's not a Curbow its a Cort designed to look like one from the late great master luthier. I have to admit, it is fun to play.
