Corvette or corvette$$ ?

I've always loved warwicks and may be in the market for one in the near future. My question is to corvette owners and is mainly concerning pickup configuration.

There's no doubt the jazz pickup flow better with the lines of the corvette's that I've played before. But I can't help but wonder about the $$ which I haven't played, is it more versatile or a different animal entirely?

I'm interested in a pro series, specifically the bubinga model. I just want to know which one is more usable as a gigging bass?

I don't have the bubinga model but I have the ash for the vette standard and IMO $$ does have alot more tonal variations then my corvette standard. I love my vette but if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the $$.

I have the $$, and honestly I keep it in the jazz pickup configuration *most* of the time, at least in my current band. At home or in other situations it's fun to play around though- it does a stingray, stingray HH, modern jazz pretty spot on. The 'p' config never sounds right to me, it's too deep sounding. There are other options that are fun too, like having the bridge pup in parallel and the neck pup in series mode- sounds pretty tight but still heavy.
It is fun to have the other options, and personally I like the way the pickups look on the bass.

I've played both, and have previously owned one with the jazz pickups. If I ever got another corvette it would forsure be the $$. That bass sounds huge!

I had a Std at one point, and would love to get a $$ some day. They're some extremely versatile instruments whereas, IMO, the Std in bubinga is something of a one trick pony. At least *I* couldn't get much variation out of it.

Not a corvette owner but did play quiet a few when before buying my thumb bass. With the Corvetter I'd jump all over the $$. It has much more flexibility than the jazz vette. In fact if I ever got rid of my thumb bass I'd consider getting a vetter $$. The German ones are quite good, I didn't like the Rock Bass models as much. The Streamer $$ is quite nice also.

I'd recommend the ash $$. More tonal variation and has passive/active switching if you've quibbles against using a pre-amp.

Same thoughts here. I actually run it blended all the way on the bridge pickup most of the time using the single coil setting, gives a lot of punch.

Honestly, I really am not into most of the tones that the bass is capable of:

a) I find that both parallel and split positions are too boomy and dark for my tastes
b) Unusably dark when in passive mode.

That said, I love the bass for the few settings I use 99% of the time -- which coincidentally are similar to the settings you'd get from a single coil Corvette.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not even sure if the $$ is available in the pro series. I know the rockbass has $$ options but i would rather have an ibanez then a rockbass

Personally, I think the double humbucker models look very cool. I'm sure they sound good too but I've never had a chance to try one. My wishlist includes a Corvette $$ 6. If I had my choice of finish, I'd pick Nirvana Black.

Yeah, I like nirvana black too. But honestly the ibanez sr1200 premium is starting to get my attention.
