Cost to Fret the Unfretted?

I am contemplating buying a beautiful 6str Stambaugh fretless. I really don't play fretless basses all that much, but I can't pass this beauty up. It's a single cut. Not sure if that makes any difference or not. Anyways my question is how much would it cost to get it fretted?

Don't do it. Learn fretless.

There are few that do it, but you would be looking in the $300 to $500 range if they have the jig that will accomodate that particular instrument.

I would agree with the "Don't DO IT" post above, it can screw up a perfectly awsome instrument.

Learning fretless really improves your playing. If you're heart and sole against fretless bass, get a different one.

I've asked Mr. Stambaugh himself and lookin at his website I think I'm gonna go with a custom build.

He makes some great basses and does it without chargin u the price of a used SUV. he makes a great point as well about some people making only 5 basses and chargin 6 and 8 thousand dollars and then you have problems with it.

This is an ethic you see in the "boutique" market with builders who have yet to build 20 instruments, calling themselves "artists" and charging obnoxious prices for jazz and p clones, or some concoction the dreamed up. Then you see people who are really established that do a completely balls out instrument for under $2000 and you wonder why. Most new builders have a great sense of themselves and rarely the actual product to justify what they charge. You have made a good choice with a builder who will give you a fine instrument that will hold it's value, and serve you for as long as you play it.
