Could You Live in a Tiny House?

Yesterday I watched the movie Tiny on Netflix.

I'm intrigued with the idea of building a 120 square ft. house for about the cost of 2 years of rent. And I could probably scale down my possessions to accommodate such a small space, but I think some sort of claustophobia would develop at some point.

I think I'll stay in my apartment for now.

As long as I could fit a couch, coffee table, fridge, shower, toilet, sink, hot plate, amp, and my one bass, I think I could do it.

My drummer, who is one of my best friends, and his 50lbs dog lived in a 8 by 13 foot, (104 sq ft) travel trailer for about 18 months. Before that he was living in his van for like three months so the travel trailer was like moving up to a mansion for him. He just recently got back on his feet financially and now is sharing a two bedroom apartment with a roommate. I think you can do it if you have to.

There is a local woman who built one of these house a couple years ago. Although I think she hauls hers to B.C. each year, I don't know if it can take the winter here. I would think it could since I have known people to live in 5th wheels.

I believe the cost of her home was about $38,000, which wasn't even that cheap in terms of trailers. Personally, I couldn't do it and neither could most TBers. Where are you going to put your gear?

Not gonna do it unless I really have to someday. I've lived in apartments for much of the last 30 years, so I don't need a ton of space. But I'm 6'5" and I'd get antsy in really cramped quarters.

I'm in the process of downsizing now, but not to something that small. My kid just moved off to College, and the wife and I are selling iour 2600 sq ft house, and looking at something about 1700 sq ft.

To me, it's going to be a big change...but looking forward to it. Less of everything to maintain and keep clean.

If I wasn't married I would build a house out of two 20 foot shipping containers; which is 160sqft. Although, I would have a garage/shop as well. I don't want a big house, I would rather have a smaller house and be financially responsible and be able to save money for retirement. A well designed small house can seem much bigger than a poorly designed large house and most of the Mc Mansions are very poorly designed.

Interesting question. But I've lived in a studio apartment. The bedroom was the living room and the dining room. And the square footage was more than 120 sq. ft. So there's no way I would live in a small room of a house.
