counterfit Les Paul

How can I say this without getting banned:

It probably took you a long time to save up for it working in the illegal scam call centre. ;) ;)

There’s a bit of a racist undertone in that statement that “People from India work in illegal call centres” or are con artists which I don’t believe.

My point is a lot of people look at this through a “first world lens”. Gibson didn’t loose any business from him as he would never buy a guitar from them. Still, with a counterfeit there’s the chance that it will enter the used market under false pretences and you are supporting a company that provides the counterfeits for people willing to pass them off.

If you’re happy with the guitar I’m glad, enjoy. I wouldn’t be too comfortable with the quality of neck wood etc used. As it’s a fake, it’s essentially unbranded so they have no brand name to build up or reputation to stand behind. At least with the knock off invasion of the 70’s/80’s they had their own logo. They stole the design but had a reason to build a quality product. That’s why they’re worth even more today. A Chibson? Not bloody likely. Too bad it doesn’t actually say “Chibson”

I bought one of the Chinese Les Paul's for $215 shipped, I think that after all this work I probably have a 1K guitar but I don't plan on selling.

No, you now have a $100 used guitar with a bunch of nice parts on it. For what you have in that Chibson you could have bought a real Epiphone Les Paul. I have a real 1993 Epiphone G400 (SG) and wouldn't trade it for a Chibson no matter how good the fake is. BTW, my Epi says Gibson on the truss rod cover because that's the way Gibson wanted it made.

I am not 100% against counterfeiters- the business owners should get flogged for not at least carrying on the 70s Japanese copy method, they should charge more and pay their workers better, but you can't say that they're not employing craftsmen and giving them some opportunity to hone their craft while earning money to feed themselves and live a potentially strife-free relatively nice life in their home country.

What if there is no tomorrow? There wasn't one today?!

Well, lets face it those guitars are OVER priced and I'm not saying that the public is being ripped off, I realize that they have to make a profit but that guitar has been out for a LONG time and all CNC stuff has been paid for long ago. I would venture to say that the total expenditure for Gibson on one of those LP's is right around $200.00. this does not take into account advertisement, corporate parties, mistresses, ad infitum.

Gibson’s financial troubles have been well documented. They are not making the money that you claim and the company has come extremely close to going under more than once.

Congrats on your stolen guitar. Thankfully no one who knows what the real things actually look like would ever mistake that monstrosity for a real Les Paul. What a horrific finish.

Oops. Well their financial troubles have been well documented. No one can claim that they are making bank. I’ll edit my post

We need to hope they stay private too. A little lack of transparency is far better than private equity firms and greedy shareholders making decisions about our guitars. Because if you thought pre-2019 Gibson was inconsistent and out of touch, just you wait until the entire company is driven by the next quarter’s earnings.

Just because they are private doesn’t mean that they don’t have private equity money or greedy shareholders. In fact, the owners of the senior notes that were given all the stock in the bankruptcy were all financial institutions.

Also - private equity firms are not necessarily bad. I ran one for years which did social impact investing in Africa.

Is this a bass forum? Just checking.
That's my question. I'm pretty sure there are forums for these types of things. Anyway, check out my new lakland
