Country bass rig

I'm with a loud, 6 pcs. country/rock group.
FOH support about 50% to 75% of the jobs.
Two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets stacked as a vertical 410 powered with either a "1984" GK 800 head or a GK MB2-500 head.
Two passive, 4 string, Fender Jazz basses. One strung with DR Sunbeams, the other strung with flats.

'08 Fender Am Std P bass / TI jazz flats
VT bass
Radial JDI

For old school country a passive 4 string is cool
New Country uses lots of low B & C (5 strings work best)
but I've had no problem doing modern country with my "4 banger"

any rig will work, which I'm sure you know..

yea, unfortunately it's about a 75/25% crap shoot on weather or not I'll get the "heft" needed to properly "rock out"
or in this case, get my "Country" On

50% of my gigs are in ear monitors which has improved my dynamics hugely..

What I've started doing recently is carrying along my small "wedge" combo
I'll always have "my tone" wherever I am

fly dates, I'll bring a small splitter/mixer and run my ears if needed

that said; the VT bass / JDI rig is incredible! to say the least
I can achieve any tone I want...

I use my Aguilar DB 2x10 with either a Carvin 50watt tube head, a Genz Benz 6.0, or a Mesa Boogie Walkabout. Indoor shows I use the Carvin. Out door, (fairs, festivals, etc) I use the Mesa or the GB with my NEOX 2x12 depending if I have P.A. support.

G-B Shuttlemax 12.0 + 2 G-B NEOX212T cabs, '62 RI J with DiMarzio Model J pickups. Will be using a Traynor YBA-3 amp with these cabs as soon as the road case for it comes in, the S-Max will be the backup amp.

I'm playing with the Brodie Stewart Band, and modern country outfit from NorCal. We've got six dudes: 3 guitars, bass drums and lead vocal. I use my standard rig for this gig:
Gallien-Kruegar 800RB
Ampeg 410HE
Spector NS2000/5

Just got some nice comments on my tone last night, which is always cool.

Mostly doing Modern Country/Classic Rock. I use either my Hot rodded OLP Music Man 5 or my Warmoth Deluxe Jazz 5. MM is active, Warmoth is passive. Either way I run a Mark Bass Mini Mark Tube 800 with a 1X15 for small gigs, 4X10 for medium venues, and both stacked for larger stages/outdoors.

I like to run in ears when available, but most larger shows are festival events so I get what I get, meaning I usually just run through the stage/side fills because that is what is available. If I were touring with a deticated road/sound crew I'd probably ditch the stack and run a Sans amp/VT or programable Sansamp/DI and run in ears all the time.

Lots of modern and "classic" country these days. I have lots of amps and cabs, but I have been mostly using my Mesa Walkabout 15 combo. I carry a second cab, a Berg 115, with me but don't seem to ever need it. If I go big, like the gig in the 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse I did in Brisbane, its the SVT-CL and the Whappo.

New/old country & classic rock band - small rooms: Markbass 12" combo (the little one, I can't remember the model #) with an SWR WM 12 combo cut down to an extension cab.

Medium-to-large rooms or outside: Schroeder 410L with either a Markbass LMII or an Alembic F1X pre/QSC PLX power amp.

Coincidentally, they're the same rigs that I use in the blues/funk/r&b band that I play in.

I play with a classic country band, Link Removed, and my main rig is a Phil Jones BG800 Roadcase, with a Orange Tiny Terror bass with an Orange SP212 and an Orange OBC115. That gives me plenty of gear for any gig, in case the PA back-up is somewhat less than acceptable. My main bass is a Fender Marcus Miller, but I also use a Fender Mark Hoppus strung with flatwounds and a Lakland Duck Dunn. I try to keep my tone clean, but with lots of punch. I've used a number of rigs over the years, and I can't say that as long as I've had enough power to get a good strong signal to the audience, they've all worked just fine. The new gear is just lighter and more powerful, and seems easier to get a nice classic country sound.

I play my occasional country gigs with the same stuff I use on all my gigs...vintage SVT/810, vintage B-15N, or vintage Micro VR/210av. I see no reason to switch my gear based on the gig, except maybe for size reasons, in which case I'm covered.






OK, so the Micro VR isn't vintage...it's from last year. But I have a small tear in the tolex of the cab, so at least it's relic'ed.

My rig usually looks like this:

Peavey T-40 or Lakland DJ5 --> Reeves Custom 225 --> Ampeg 810av, plus a Radial JDI. That's my rig for everything I do as well, not just country stuff.

That said, I think a great player can make just about anything work for the style/sound they're going for... No real need to use specific gear. Just get the stuff that makes you stoked to play.

I use a Hartke ha 5000 and a SWR 410 with a an Ampeg B15 cab. Not to crazy about the ampeg cab. I am thinking of getting either a an SWR cab with a 15 in it or an Accugroove Whappo Jr. to stick underneith the swr cab. The Swr cab has a very good country thick, deep,smooth, full sound. I played through some of the amps/cabs at my local momnpop music store that other bass players that play in other genres said they like the tone. I tried the Eden for example and didn't feel like they sounded like country. I dont think distortion has a place for that kind of sound. I use a Carvin lb75 5 string bass(my favorite) and a fender Jazz. All I play is country. You can still stay very busy around here because there is a high demand for this kind of music. Country has a specific sound. I am sure there are a lot of rigs that can get the sound, but I am certain that there are some that won't.

My main gig is classic/modern country and classic rock. Main bass is a modded Squier Affinity 5 with Audere pre-amp and one or two GK MB115 combos. No FOH support, unfortunately. I use either my ZOOM B2 Bassman model or my Peavey ProBass 1000 as a preamp.
