Cover bands: post your set list

This is a partial list for my trio (with guitar). There are a lot of different ones for the keyboard trio I work with.

I tried to put together something that most bands don't play.

  19. It's Too Late – Carol King
  20. Come Together - The Beatles
  21. Sledgehammer – Peter Gabriel
  22. The One Thing - INXS
  23. Rock the Casbah - The Clash
  24. Tainted Love - Soft Cell

  38. Young Lust - Pink Floyd
  39. Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
  40. Shock the Monkey – Peter Gabriel

Lots on your list that I would love to play!

One of my favorite songs of all time.

I'm trying to convince my band to do a metal version of this one.
It's a fun track. Just have to keep the tempo down so you don't kill the guitarist on the solo!

Or, if you have a guitar player like the one we fired earlier in the year, you can really step it up to watch him sweat!

Thanks! One of the great things about it was going into a new venue and watching the faces of people when they recognize something that they didn't expect to hear. People really dig New Order! Unfortunately, we had an idiot guitar player who decided he had to go through a minute or so of every tune (in set order) before the gig, at full volume, to "get his tone." I had to fire him in February.

We try to have a balance between stuff we like and stuff the audience knows.

Quick question?

How do you guys even remember how to play all those tunes?

Easy. I'm the drummer and just follow along :P

But seriously, half of the stuff we play is stuff I've listened to for 20+ years and know by heart. The rest I learn along the way.

My suggestion is to make a playlist you can listen to regularly. I have playlists in both iTunes and Tidal with most of our songs, so I listen to them whenever I can in random order. I often notice new details in a song, and that helps me refine the way I play it.

I'm the same, all the tunes we play, with a rare exception, are songs that I've heard for decades, and once I had the progressions down it just seems easy to remember. I also have all the songs in a playlist that I listen to randomly. Even though I had never played the majority of the songs live when I joined the band, I was able to get up to speed very quickly.

With Tushe Band; we start calm, build up the energy and finish with Rock'n Roll classics. Fills about 3 hours.

Quick question?

How do you guys even remember how to play all those tunes?
Hand and muscle memory. Lots and lots of woodshedding at home until you can play the songs without thinking about where or what to do next in the song. It's easy, at least for me, to get distracted and if I had to rely solely on my mental memory I'd be making a lot of mistakes.
Last night we played to a full house. It was shoulder to shoulder room only. Two hot chick were doing the booty shake 12 inches from my bass.
I had stay where I was, there no place to move. Anyway, they were amazingly erotic in their dancing. Thank God I knew the song without thinking because thinking about what note, verse or bridge comes next, was the furthest thing from my mind. Admittedly even that didn't help when our drummer jokingly said, "Its freaking hot in here! All the girls pull your shirts or tops up and down and it'll cool off the place". How dumb I thought until 90% of the women lifted their tops.....I totally missed an ultra simple bridge. I screwed up the song but it was totally worth it. In fact I think everyone in the band flubbed the bridge at that moment.
