WD 40 is good for REMOVING moisture from assemblies, which is what it was made for (the WD stands for Water Displacement). Rust prevention? No.
Also good for removing adhesive residue.

No doubt it will displace standing moisture at the application site, but it is not a long term moisture barrier. Once it dries, the solids left behind are hydroscopic and will attract moisture.

WD-40 was developed as a light solvent,non ferrous metal CLEANER so it contains chemicals that help with removing corrosion while still in a wetted state, but it was never intended to be left in place as a barrier to future corrosion. It was made to be wiped on aluminum, left to stand for a minute or so then wiped off, taking any light surface corrosion with it.

Beyond the above, the many uses touted for WD-40 can be taken with a grain of salt. Some of the claims are true, some not so true, and still some that are straight up BS. You can get protectants in spray cans, but make sure it's for ferrous or non ferrous metals before you buy it. And don't believe everything they say about most of those miracle all in one cleaner/protectant sprays.

Try a cotton bud tip soaked in contact cleaner, the amount of crud it gets out of a jack is amazing.

I found that I had to clean my jack every fortnight to stop it crackling due to living in area with very high humidity. I changed the jack and problem solved. The metal plating will ware over time and will corrode.

This is exactly what I do. Works every time. Same problem I had with humidity, parts wear out and need changing.
