Craiglist

AARGH !!!

Have 2 guitars on Craiglist. Have had 1 legitimate inquiry and at least 6 scammers.

I have a lot of experience in busting scammers online, so if I might give some advise.

Now don't tell me "Dave ya lunkerhead....everyone knows a scammer when they read one"

Not always...often they are clever.

If you get someone who asks no questions or is too eager, chances are they are a scammer.
Russian mafia uses gmail a lot. Now they use more common email clients like Yahoo.

The most common one is the: "I'll send a "cashiers cheque" to you"

Moreover, they often concoct a story about a business contact in USA who owes them money. They will send YOU the check and it will be for what is owed them (the buyer)...then you take your cash and send them the difference. Kind of a 914 scam.

They say: "Don't worry bro, I trust you" !!!!

The cashiers check is a phoney and you are stung.
Last thing I want is to be hassled by the FBI or some banking commission.

There are more even better scams.

I'd just say: be careful. Russian scammers are easy to detect due to the lack of adjectives and Nigerian scammers just use poor syntax.....as a rule.

Anyways, I hope I can help someone advoid getting burned. You don't have to be stupid to get scammed.

Cheers, Dave

Matticus, I get that a lot as well.
Most are simply flaky people. People just seem to like to inquire...but arent really serious.

I get that too....often enough.

I sometimes get the guy who offers me $35 for a $150 guitar.
He's serious alright !!
He wants something for nothing.

I doesn't get under my skin....just a part of selling I suppose.
Dave

The offers for less than half, and scammers make it interesting, to say the least. Earlier this month, I listed my amp for a few bucks below the average ebay (completed) similar item, a guitar teacher paid cash for it the following day.

Hiya,

At least you get the scammers, I get replies to take off the baby fat when I post an ad to sell a table...

Greetings!

I can see you’ve finally made the decision to sell some of your old stuff ? I’ve been doing the same stuff for the past two months too! It’s so hard to part with this stuff when it has so many wonderful memories isn’t it? The hardest thing for me to part with of all was the dang baby weight though! But, thank God, I finally found something that actually worked great. I saw the stuff on the news, and decided to try it. I have to say it is a lot better than all that other stuff that makes you feel all weird or makes you crash out halfway through the day and still never seems to work.

Anyway, I found this place where you can get a sample if you want to
check it out... Here it is
