Craigslist '73 Jazz Bass

I found this ad. I corresponded with the seller. He seems to think this is worth $800. He confided to me that the neck had a "pretty wicked bow' when he first got it.

I personally think it's all different parts from mystery makers and such. What thinks the group?

It doesnt look right to me. The tuners are smaller than the original ones would be, and therefore, there would be holes on the back of the headstock from where the old ones would have been. the body looks non-fender. The wood grain is way different than anything that i've seen. The knobs on it look completely wrong. I know, these may have been changed, but it never states that the knobs aren't original... The neck stamp could be fake. I think it was stamped by some joe schmoe. I think this may be a fender project or something...I don't know. Something about this bass doesnt feel right.

I had a 72 jazz and it didn't have a skunk strip like this one does.

It looks right to me. Yes tuners are small but obvious these are not original. The stamp is strange too but...
Anyway, it looks pretty cool, and even if its a copy its done very well..and it looks vintage

It got one piece maple neck! now who in the world would do 1 piece maple neck, coz its very hard to do...atlaest in nowdays i think not many...

I have a felling it may be a mighty might body.....it's definitely ash, and a decent piece of ash..but absolutely not the real deal.
if you were to grab it, worst case scenario is you'd have a cool looking jazz...but if the seller is saying the neck was bowed......run away...

it looks like the body was stained or oiled too. If you look at the picture where it shows the back, look at where the neckplate is. The rest of the body looks alot darker.

No. Not at all, even the knobs. Not in a house, nor with a mouse. Not Fender anything.

The decal is too small, definitely not correct. The serial numbers were punched separately and aren't aligned properly, and the holes are too big on the neckplate. The binding even looks a bit too big on the neck (hard to tell, though), and the body contours don't look right.

I say fake, too.

There's no way of knowing if the neck will straighten out without developing a ramp, etc. Run away.

I personally enjoy what appears to be a hand etched/ engraved serial number on the neck plate. Mmm mmm forgery!
