Craigslist scammers!

When you post an ad, make sure you uncheck the contact by email button. You can just about eliminate the scammers by refusing email contacts. State that only phone calls will be answered. It has worked very well for me. I was told by Secret Service, when I reported a phony check scammer, that most of them are overseas, most likely in Nigeria, Eastern Europe or China. This is why your phony addresses don't scare them away. Every time you respond to a scammer, you run the risk of your email being hacked. That is what a lot of them really want when they ask stupid questions with obvious answers. Don't let them know your email address is legit. Don't respond to them at all.:):bassist:
When you reply to a Craigslist email, They then can get your "real" email??? What do they then do with your email once they hack it? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question but I just don't understand how that scam works.

Wow... So many people can just let it be...

I know they're scammers from the very first contact.

Even if it's not irritating, does no one want to try to stop a criminal anymore? Does no one worry about the poor folks that get scammed? If it had ever worked on me I would have been financially f**ked... What about people who aren't familiar with their tactics?

Where does the lack off concern stop? Would you try to help an old lady getting her purse ripped off her arm? Would you alert a mom and pop store owner of a shop lifter, or chalk it up to part of the business? Would you walk right past a rape in an alley?

Sure it doesn't effect me all that much, but what about the people getting scammed out of thousands of dollars? I don't understand how you can just ignore thieves trying to steal... What if it were a thief trying to get into your neighbors home?

Damn... Maybe this world needs a Batman if this is the attitude of the general population.

If I've learned anything from being here on TB the last few years, it's that the attitude of the majority of the members seems to be...TAKE CARE OF NUMBER ONE, LET EVERYONE ELSE TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES.

I'm with bpclay1, not sure when the attitude changed in this country, but it is definitely not like the old days. Even though it won't "make a dent" in all the scammers out there, if everyone that encountered a scammer tried to do something about it, we would definitely decrease their numbers. Might even prevent someone you know from being their next victim.

State trooper was just shot and killed here in Louisiana, about 10 miles from my home. I even know the P.O.S. that shot him. Thank GOD that the men that captured, handcuffed, and held him until authorities arrived, didn't have that same attitude. What they did was definitely risky, but without them, that SOB would have likely shot someone else. Sometimes you just have to do what is right, and luckily, where I live, these people outnumber the ME FIRST crowd.

Might I suggest:

Yes. Clearly. this is just like a statey getting gunned down.

It's not about the trooper getting shot, it's about how these guys didn't just worry about themselves, and prevented this guy from doing it to someone else. This guy had a long criminal record, none of it involving weapons. IF someone would have taken care of him when he did the smaller stuff, he wouldn't have been around to take out that trooper. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE cost much less than A TOTAL MECHANICAL FAILURE!

Done plenty of CL deals at my house

Never once had an issue

We live in a society that is increasingly paranoid, that always expects the worse. The reasons for this are many and aren't really worth diving into, but I think we can all agree that more folks are more afraid of EVERYTHING today than in days past.

I'd say relax. Take a breath. Don't stress so much. And don't be afraid of everything.

OP should leave CL immediately. He doesn't have the temperament for it. There are probably better ways to channel your energy and devote your time than trying to be a vigellante on CL.

For the record, I have bought and sold gear on CL without any hassles. I've had people express interest in items then abruptly disappear, but that's par for the course when selling items in any classifieds.

Today I got offered some prescription meds for Restless Leg Syndrome for a bass I have on CL. As tempting as it was to reply that my legs are just fine, I simply deleted the e-mail.

Regarding hacking into your e-mail, CL prevents this by concealing your and the other party's e-mail addresses with their forwarding service.

Peace, Bob
