For your viewing pleasure I present my latest craigslist find. I'm fairly sure that I got a deal, but I'll leave that up to you all here on TB.
Bass: Aria Pro II SB-XXXX (?), serial J780045
Price: $75 + 2 hours of hideous, suicide-inducing beltway traffic
The bass could use some TLC, and it's got some "character", but it's 100% functional, and now that I've had a chance to give it a fresh set of strings and a proper setup, it plays like a champ... sustain for days. The tone is meaty but very aggressive, especially considering the pickup placement. The 18V electronics and the presence switch (or is it active/passive) give the option of adding some sizzle to the tone if so desired. The active sheen reminds me of a musicman, although overall the tone is nothing like a musicman, or for that matter, any other bass I can think of
And of course, the question is: can anyone tell me exactly what I've got? Looks like an SB-1000 to me, but it's a bolt-on neck, which I thought was only found on the passive SB's (SB-600 if memory serves). Also, I think it to be a very early SB, perhaps the 45th made in 1978 if I'm reading the serial # correctly, which I'm probably not.
