Craigslist shopping today: need help/suggestions

I'm mainly an electric guitar player, but I'm looking to own a solid bass for recording or bass gigs I happen to pick up. Going shopping around town today.

Here are my options in my local area that stood out to me. I love Fender guitars, so I'm sticking with those at the moment. Feel free to check out the ads and give me some feedback on which ones to look into... as I'm kinda shooting in the dark here. Thanks!!

Not decided on P vs J for me... mostly going to be for recording-- so the J option I've heard is more flexible for a better array of tones.

Anyone have a Road Worn J they prefer over the regular MIM J bass?
Can a J get the P sound? (but the P won't get all of the J's sounds)

Given that selection, and the purpose for the bass (i.e. recording), I'd suggest the RW Jazz bass. I don't see how you can go wrong, personally.

However, if you don't end up taking any of those basses, then I would suggest looking at a Precision bass with a split coil pickup for a "solid" bass tone that fits great in a mix (won't have the flexibility of a Jazz bass but you can get a number of useful tones out of a P bass).

No pics, but the owner says he will text them. If it's all in order and in good shape, that's a pretty solid deal.

Of the basses you posted I'd go for the RW Jazz or 50's P. With some patience you could easily find a US Standard P or J in your price range as well.

My geddy records really nice. I think they they are the same pickups that are used on the American Vintage '62 Jazz Bass (at the least the bridge pickup is).

It's a single coil, so they do tend to humm a bit if you don't have a solid ground.

Of these, I would go with Geddy or the road worn. Since I don't like the relic look, I would go geddy.

Don't go for the EX unless you see pictures of that bass.

Don't buy any of them unless you can play them first! Take a bass playing friend with you if you are just learning.

Ok, I'm changing my recommendation!

IF the neck, tuners and bridge are good on the $275 MIM jazz, get that one and put these pups in there: Invalid Link Removed
For about you $400, you would have some killer tone!
