Posted this clip when I first joined Talkbass one or two years ago and people thought that the bass at the beginning was a cranked SVT, but after listening to the song again after a long time I'm not really sure...

Cranked SVT or OD pedal?

i think it's a pedal, too. that's not the svt type of distortion imho. besides, unless you're in the studio, it's always better to use a pedal than a cranked svt. cranked svt gets you fired.
I have no idea how to get that sound but I also don't know how this guy seems to attract woman so much. Those comments kinda freak me out on that youtube video.
So you think it's a TS clone? I have Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive and I can't quite get that sound...maybe I need a bass specific TS with a bit more gain?
I can get a similar sound combining a VT Bass and a Xotic BB Bass Preamp. You also have to consider I'm using a passive bass (important) and an Ampeg Svt-VR. It's not a difficult tone to obtain.

It doesn't necessarily have to be bass specific, but the gain is needed. The Keeley "Baked Mod" is one helluva hot pedal! The OCD is not necessarily TS per se, but it will nail that pretty easily.
I really think you can get that tone with any OD pedal, and some EQ adjustments. But the key is the pick to get the attack.
The bass player's technique is similar to mine, as I also play with a pick close to the bridge (and I use a P bass). I'll try to tweak the EQ a bit more to see what happens.

It cold be a overdrive pedal, Cranked SVT's have a bit softer clipping (more clipping in the higher mid range), this one has much more grit. It could be a MXR M80, or a Rat also... we don't know how much post eq the signal can have... and that certainly can make a big difference on the overall clipping texture.
It could also not no pedal at all.
I work on my designs in a recording studio here in Helsinki, and 99% of the producers/engineers use plugins (lots of them).
This allows them to control what cutoff frequencies, and how much gain you want to assign to every band, and then blend them, post ecualizing, blending with clean signal, compressing, etc.
I see why is so attractive to them giving the grat amount of flexibility, but then there's usally the problem of replicating that tone in live situations.

I'm not sure what "corrrrrrrr" means, but I definitely like the bass tone in this video...
I think it sounds like a rat with a pick. All of the other ODs mentioned should do the trick also.
I see a couple of folks say it's an MXR M80... really? If so, I bought the wrong DI/OD (Sansamp).
