so the wife and me stop in a Loval music store to kill some time.

She walks out with a new Taylor accoustic and i left with a bad case of GAS.

Picked up a Ric 4003s. Never even held a Ric before. Plugged into some random Hartke amp/ speaker.

I really shouldn't have done that. I am currently adding up what I can get for current basses.

If this sounded that good with the Hartke, can't image it matched with my Mesa d800 and Epifany 1x15's.

Ric is an awesome bass.
Wife has good taste as well.

Yeah, Part of me wish I never picked it up. Played the usual that was hanging... Various p's and j's. Gibson, Ibanez, etc.

I have a Carvin LB70 circa 1993 and a Ibby Sr650. Pretty much have the p and j covered. The lb70 is by far the "go to" bass and never really felt the need or pull towards another bass.

I was happy with my gear before today.

I do not like binding and big pickup covers, so never really had the urge to pick up a Ric. Then I see the dang 4003s with no binding and thought what the heck.

Now I need to start saving. Can't get it out of my head.

Congratulations, you are well and truly screwed GAS-wise. If the funky ergonomics work for you, Bass Nirvana Awaits. I would highly recommend getting one of @Aceonbass custom Ric-O-Sound wiring harness that operates through the single jack hole you will have on the 4003s. Then you can bi-amp it, which is where the true Secret Sauce of a Ric becomes apparent, crushing lows through one amp, and sparkly highs or distortion through another. The Piano of Doom.

Yeah, been there, done that. Some years ago I was in local Guitar store looking at stuff like you. Pick up a nice Ric... Well you know the story. I'm in love and call the owner over and ask the key question: "Does this come in 5 string?' Well at the time the answer was "YES"!!!!!! So with total disregard of the cost I place my order for one.

Well, Phew! Luckily I timed it just right so my order came in just as Ric was deciding that they had no idea how to build a bass with 5 strings and cancelled my order for me. And since it wasn't my responsibility giving up on GAS, it's been easy to live with that ever since.

You? Not so lucky I'd guess.

I would suggest trying a 4004 before before you pull the trigger. I liked the RIC 4003 sound, but it was lacking something for me.
The 4004 was just what I was looking for.

No way I'm getting tricked into playing a second model. Its gonna cost enough for 1, not gonna risk liking both. but then again, what can it hurt. right?
