Crazy basses on ESP Japan website

I'm not gonna spend that much money on a bass, but some have Edwards-branded versions which are around $1000, and there are a few of those I'd definitely snag if I happened across a used one closer to home. I did manage to find a Killer Simmony in the UK, so it's possible.

I played the Edwards by ESP series when I was in Japan a few years back. Awesome bass. I'd happily own one.

I think it should be noted that those basses are artist signature basses designed by artists mostly from the visual-kei genre, so it shouldn't be surprising that they're bizzare-looking if you know the genre.

Those basses look like 1950's modern art better suited to hang on the wall. The one with the fret board lights let's your audience know you are a beginner and are following the lights.

There's 20+ companies, including ESP, making excellent burst Ps with tort. Good on ESP for doing something different.

ESP Japan and Hollywood are right up there with the best in the world. Really. What hurts them, and why people say they suck, is that they are popular for their cheap LTD line. I've been to NAMM, and saw their custom and/or top-of-the-line stuff, and it's downright amazing...some of the most talented builders out there.

Lol. Are people teasing you about the clay dots on your 66 Jazz bass again? I don't think anyone mistakes Mark King for a beginner when he busts out his signature Status basses with led markers.

Here's another one for those of y'all who don't want things to be too colorful or pointy. Pretty old-school, but not really quite traditional. Those are Jazz pickups under those covers, too.

The Doris Yeh bass is gorgeous, but the prices are astounding. I understand ESP custom shop doesn't come cheap. The base model, w/o LEDs is ~$4100, which is straight from their site and probably MSRP. However, the upgraded version with LEDs, the only upgrade being the LEDs is ~$11,600. $7500 worth of LED work?

I guess that is how big name custom shops work, but this particular instance juat blew my mind.

There was a time, not so long ago, when the US dollar was doing better in the world. Back then the most expensive stuff coming out of Japan was "affordable" to us and no lower in quality. Perspective...
