Crazy, Unique, Weird.. whatever term you'd like to use. There are some pretty interesting ESP basses available in Japan that we will probably never see in the states. One thing I do hope to see come here is their factory LED equipped necks!

Other than the jazz bass, they are, without doubt, some of the ugliest basses I've ever seen.
Maybe they look good on whatever planet they come from, but here on Earth?
The sixth one down wouldn't be so bad without the ridiculous fret markers and the third from the bottom isn't that bad, except for the silly pickguard, but even some of the really weird Russian and Italian vintage basses weren't this outrageously comic.

I think its great that ESP is fearless about trying something different. Like them or not, the quality of their Japan made product is on a par with the best any US custom shop can muster.
This one? It's not an Araya. It's the Doris Yeh "Andromeda" bass
Do they still make the Halibut?
I don't think so, but their custom shop will build you almost anything.
Japan is unique in that they have a "Galapagos effect" that is reflecting in their art, culture and technology.
99% sure the artist who commissioned those basses in also a Lakland endorser.
That one is rather nice looking. The only thing bothering me in the monster size string spacing.

Are you sure about that? There are several other variation of the "F" style body. Notice the unique headstock shape. Was the bass you saw priced over $4000 USD?
The ones a few down look like the SB Carvins and the "lighting bolt" looks like one of the Ox's custom basses.
ESP is a great company. One of the few active/neck through basses I ever liked was an ESP with two of the first EMG HZ buckers. Wish I still even had a pic of it. I've played a few 80's Jazz's from them and they're top notch. I'm not sure how LTD compares, but I know seeing an actual ESP bass is kind of rare domestically.

Great looking basses for showmanship. I know a dealer who brings in basses with colors that are out of this world. He mentioned that they actually sell, especially to those who perform on stage.
