Crazy reasons for breaking up the band

OK, from my small experience, I've been through some the usual small reasons why bands break up (personalities, lack of commitment/time, lack of talent [guitarists usually ;-)] playing the same stuff over and over again, "artistic differences" etc etc).

But, I'm writing a story about a local band that turn into a modest happening success (along Grateful Dead lines) and which breaks up just before the breakthrough etc. I'm looking for an exotic/funny/sad reason as to why this band breaks up. I can only think of silly ego problems and laziness as reasons.

Has anyone experienced or heard of a sad/funny/weird reason why something good in a band just suddenly went up in smoke? The weirder stranger, the better.

appreciated!

i think i told this story before....but its better of at the beginnin on the story as a guy who may be looking for a band.

i was in my apt. in keene NH when i was in college, just messing around with my bass and I hear a knock on the door.

its some guy who lives up the street, he is a drummer and wanted to see if i ever wanted to jam.

before i could really get talking this guy rips a MASSIVE fart. I was like oh lord! welp, lil weird, im thinking to myself. I invite a stranger in and start talking to him, and so i decide to just forget about the fart.

2 minutes later "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGER!" rages another HUGE FART. the guy must have farter 4 times in my living room.

i think we jammed once....and then i never called him back.

talk about being desperate to form a band.

Singer (female) and lead guitarist are dating (exclusively he thinks). He turns up with gonnorea. Freaks him out because he knew he got it from her. They get in a big fight, turns out she'd been sleeping with a good portion of the 1st Marine Brigade (well, the airwing anyway).

So I guess the reason the band broke up was a strange burning sensation and pus discharge during urination? My late nite snack just lost it's appeal.

True story though.

The guitarist gets really drunk, runs into the middle of the street on a very busy Friday night, takes off all his clothes, tucks his penis between his legs, then squats and pees, claiming he has a vagina.

Mhm...it happened. That was the beginning of a very painful night of nudity:)

Lead guitarist starts doing the singer (violation of Rule #1). They end up getting married and have a kid. The singer has to quit to take care of the kid, but the lead guitarist stays in and we get a new singer. Then comes the second kid and mom says, "You have two kids. You don't have time to be in a band." End of story, end of band (the lead guitarist was a founding member).

Yeah, the bandleader/manager guy was (and confirmed and agreed by the other pros who were involved) patently messed-up and has serious issues. This is the only situation in my 20 or so years of music in which I've ever been tempted to warn other people to stay away. And not out of spite, but just to help others who were well-intentioned, capable and professional as I was, to avoid a fluster cluck.

If any of you are by chance looking at an ABBA tribute group based out of Maryland, please feel free to get in touch... Please let me save you some dissapointment, runaround, hassle and frustration. It's not sour grapes, trust me...

Didn't break up the band, but a guitarist who auditioned was someone I recognized from a porno I'd seen. He did not get the gig. I wouldn't have been able to play on stage with him. I'd have been laughing too much. If he had already been in the band before any of us had seen his "side project" it would have broken up the band for sure.
