Creating a Humbucker

I like the idea of p/j basses. Im thinking of making a bass with a regular p pickup and a big block j bass style pickup.

I had Curtis Novak build me a custom double Jazz pickup that would split into a traditional single coil.

He told me that two single coils would be too hot, so he does each coil half as hot to add up to a regular output.

I had him do one coil half sized, and the other full sized with a coil tap, so that i could run a full single coil, or two half coils, and the output would stay roughly equal.

If you want to know how hot it will be, just take a regular Jazz bass and put the coils in series instead of parallel.
You obviously won't have the tone, but you will get a feel for the amount of output.
