I am an unapologetic lover of all things Venom. I got to see them on the 85 Combat tour in Sacramento. Exodus and Slayer opened. Best show ever! That was my first taste of thrash metal played live, and I've never been the same since.

Right place, right time.... I also saw Metallica(with the mighty Cliff Burton!)open for Y&T around this same time. Northern California, and the bay area to be exact, was THE place to be for punk and metal, and crossover and thrash.

I am a huge VENOM Fan! Love the Sound of Conos' Bass!!! Especialy the Bass-Tone around the "At War With Satan" (Album) and the "Metal Black" (Album - yes, right, the new one).

Is there anyone out there who can tell me something about the effects he used?

If I remember correct he had bass with half fretted and half fretless. This band was very big thing in my youth. Still at the same time I listened Rush , Yes and all prog giants. Venom had just something

I hear a lot of Phaser and or Chorus and Distortion and or Fuzz. Does anyone know what effects Cronos used during the "At War With Satan" Album and Tour? There are a lot of effects on his bass - live and in the studio!

I love Venom. That period between 1981 to about 1985 is the best. I'm going to buy their new album "Storm The Gates" when it comes out. Hell, maybe I'll preorder it.

As far as Cronos goes, I can't get enough of his bass tone. I love it. Especially "At War With Satan", where the "Storm The Gates" quote comes from.

Now I need to get a bass I can destroy by collapsing it the way he did. He just folds it in two. Or into. Or in to. Into crypts of bass! Yeah, wrong band, but it works.

I really love Cronos' basstone on At War With Satan. The distorted-phaser-like big tone is so good! The title-track is awesome. I just got a new EHX Phaser (small stone) and I love it with my EHX HotTubes (the one with real tubes though).

I wonder if anyone knows which effects Cronos used during those years (1982-1985). But I alos love Tony Dolan (Demolition-Man), the "new" bassplayer in Venom inc.! He has a distinct sound too.

I wish I knew! I do recall reading somewhere - maybe it was in liner notes, maybe an interview - Nocturno Culto talking about that bass tone. Seems like he'd know. Wonder how to get ahold of him...
