Crown xls 1000 output

I just purchased a crown xls 1000 to replace a 400 lb Samson s1000 I was using. I hope this will be enough amp for most gigs. Seems if I need more power, I should be DIing to the board. But I digress.
My question: Will it be better to bridge the amp and daisy chain my two 8-ohm cabinets, or run the amp in parallel and let each cabinet have its own amp? If I run in parallel, any point in biamping the low to my 115 cab and the high to my 210h cab?

Probably nothing to be gained by biamping as they're both full(ish)-range cabs, and you'd also lose the advantage of coupling. You need to consider how much power you need and how much your cabs can tolerate. Bridged into two cabs, there's 1100W on tap (550 to each 8 ohm cab). Parallel - 215W per 8 ohm cab.

Bear in mind that Crown XLS amps need an input of 1.4 volts RMS to drive them to full power, it may be that your preamp doesn't have enough to drive it properly.

If you bridge it with your cabs in parallel for a 4 ohm load, it should push out 1100 watts. That may be a bit salty for your cabs since they will both have to take 550 watts. The 10s will share that 550 watts between them, the 115 will have to manage on it's own, and there are not many 115s (at least I can't think of any) that will handle that much power reliably. Not to say you can't use it bridged, but you would need to listen very carefully to your cabs for any signs of distress.

Using 215 watts into each cab might be your safer option, but check out the input voltage that you are giving it to work with, because if your preamp is only feeding it 0.775v or 1.0v then you won't be getting anywhere near the rated output of the poweramp.

Try it both bridged and dual mono...go from there. I run a 2500 bridged into (2) 8 ohm Carvin PA mains daisy-chained with no issues. That being said, bridged mono is better suited to accommodate the wider voltage swings of an 8 ohm load.

When connecting your signal source (i.e. preamp), remember to use a 1/4" T/S to the channel 1 "Link/Out" input.

Derg, that's what I was thinking. The cabs are each 8-ohm cabs with 500 watt ratings (Trace-elliot). We'll have to see if 215 watts each is enough juice to push them. If not, bridged it is.

I'm not too worried about getting to the input voltage. I have a sansamp RBI being fed by a BBE Bmax and that signal hits an ART graphic equalizer before hitting the amp. I know.. Nuts. But that's GAS for you.

I've run a couple of 8 ohm cabs with an older XLS 1000 without any problems at all . Some people don't like bridging amps because it's harder on them but I've always had good luck doing it with Crowns .

I run my xls1500 bridged into a single 800w cab. Volume on the amp wode open but pre amp outputnever goes above 50%. I would daisy chain if using two cabs. To bridge the XLS series you need a special speakon cable. You can either buy a 4 connector speakon cable and change one end or look on ebay and find a cable designed for bridging the ampeg svt 4. From the amp to the first cab is the weird cable. From the first cab to the second cab you can use a standard cable.


Imo the power ratings are a bit overrated, it's a good amp though haven't had any issues with it and it's only like 9lbs. I am glad I went with the 1500 instead of the 1000 though

Sweet! I was debating weather or not to upgrade to the 1500, but was thinking in bridged mode, that is plenty of power to run my 8-ohm 410 or the 210/115 stack. If that isn't enough for the clubs I play in, we're too damn loud!
