Depending on age, I think there were plenty of Slade fans for a number of years in the USA...similar in popularity to The Sweet or Mott the Hoople, I think.

don't know where you're from, but those aren't skinheads
Hey my brother @Son of Wobble good to see you out and about. And appreciating some fine British Glam Rock. Noddy had a set of pipes on him that's for sure.

Well that is so unbelievably wrong as to be ridiculous. Slade were a huge band in the UK and Europe, had multiple No 1 chart singles, multiple No 1 albums, and wrote a Christmas song that is still played to death every year. Your source is is not knowledgeable at all, no matter what they might think.
i didn't realize that cum on feel the noize from quiet riot was a cover
And Diamonds And Rust was a Joan Baez cover.
Is that like not knowing that Hendrix didn't write All Along the Watchtower?

Slade were originally part of the rather unpleasant 60s / 70s British skinhead football subculture but changed their image.
Preach on, brother!Peter Green era Mac > Bob Welch era Mac >>>>> Stevie/Lindsay era Mac.
I don't know much about Greenslade or Renaissance, but Gentle Giant were some amazing classically trained musicians who would blow your mind when seeing them live. Steely Dan included some of the finest studio musicians out there including Chuck Rainey and Lee Ritinour and some of the best songwriting that is still timeless. Excellent music and definitely NOT cringe worthy. No accounting for taste
To be fair, it would be impossible to take Slade too seriously. BTW I have to play the Merry Xmas song next month, but I ain't wearing no tank top and that's final!Ahh, Slade. A bunch of lads that surely didn't take themselves too seriously.![]()
