Just out of curiosity what's an appropriate curfew for a 15-16 year old.

When I was that age (2-3 years ago), I had to be home by 11 on weekends, and absolutely no going anywhere on school nights unless it was academic-related. Only exception to the weekend rule was when I was on EMT duty or staying at a bud's place.

Now at 18 and in college my parents prefer that I be home before 1 am, although they don't really penalize me if I come back later.

Pretty much the same here. Now I'm 19, and my parents don't care if I come home at 2 or 4... Actually I stay at others' places most times, so it doesnt matter when I come to their cave of course.

I never really had a set curfew during high school, I was just expected to not be stupid and show up at home that night (preferably earlier than 2, duh.) Then again, I didn't really go out that much especially when I was 16.

That said, I think 1am is appropriate. IME, there are lots of times that sometimes, **** happens, and you can't get home in time. It's really up to your parents to then decide if you really were stuck in traffic/your phone died/ran out of gas etc. or if you just decided to stay out a bit longer and cook up a story. Realistically, the kid could have fun until about 12 or 12:30 or so and still have time to travel back without getting his arse tanned because he was half an hour late for a midnight curfew.

EDIT: As far as now goes, my dad doesn't care and my mom just wants me to be safe -- so if I'm going to be drinking, I'd better have a place to stay that night is generally how it goes down. I also let them know if I'm going to be staying over/late/etc. before I go so it's not an issue later on.

I'm 16 right now, and my parents are generally fine with whatever I do.... I dont have a curfew, but my parents know what I am doing, and I'll come home if they want me to. I think the best way to do this is just to make sure your child will be home with enough time to rest and get up the next day, discuss it with him/her before he/she leaves.

I may be 17, but I think my situation is a pretty good one.

As long as I tell my parents where I'm going and who I'll be with, they'll be fine. They ask for a rough idea of when I might be home, and I call them if I want to stay out later. If we decide to go somewhere else than we had originally planned, I call my parents again and let them know. They expect me to be home at a reasonable time (for example, I can't stay out until 1 in the morning), but as long as they know what's going on, they're fine with whatever I do.

Like it or not, you need 8 hours sleep.

So, whatever time you have to get up for school, subtract 8 hours. Then subtract whatever amount of time it takes to fiddle-fart around getting ready for sleep and the next day.

That is the time you need to be getting back to the house.

Sucks, don't it?:D

You can burn the candle at both ends from time to time and get away with it but there's really no getting past basic physiology. Sooner or later it'll catch up to you.

It doesn't matter if you're 15 or 50.

"curfew" has nothing to do with it. It's about taking care of yourself.

IMHO.

By the time I was 15 I didn't have one. Just be home for dinner or call saying you won't. I didn't go out much on weekdays anyhow. From 13 - 15 I had a morning paper route and another after school so I had to be somewhat responsible. But from Fri night 'til Sunday my parents rarely saw me.

I moved out at 16 into a band house ("as long as you stay in school") so no curfew there
