Curious - Basses & Cars from TB'ers - Any Correlation?

Morning all,

We definitely are a small number of people who appreciate our basses, and our passion for these instruments reflect on some of the posts we have on TB (there are a lot of people that have no clue what some of our instruments are or their features, wood combination, etc). I am just curious to know if there's any correlation between the type of instrument, brand, color we prefer / use in comparison to the cars we drive / like. I am sure it would be a smaller number of TB'ers who also are car lovers but I know there are some bass and car lovers on TB. Again, this post will only make sense for car lovers on TB, there's no other reason to post this other to get some feedback from the group.

Any thoughts or am I just way off?!

Hopefully your post will survive long enough to gain some traction, as there are indeed some car enthusiasts on this site, and what's more there are a few guys
who display and cultivate a symmetry in their car and bass collections vis-a-vis color and finish. There are some great photos buried elsewhere on the site, too, if you
do the spade work.

As for myself, I am in that camp of TBers who disregard their car so as to spend more disposable income on guitars. Plenty of that type here too.

I'm in the camp of just wanting my car to work and wanting my bass tone and playing to shine..

However, I do have a gas list for both (albeit short). Basses that interest me are vintage p basses, dingwalls, foderas, and MM basses intrigue me but I haven't spent much time with them to know how I feel. For vehicles classic muscle cars, electric cars, some luxury cars, and sleek sports cars (audi much?). Also I want a Ducati.. just sayin.

I love cars and bikes, cars for me however have to be practical as I play double bass and then any spare cash I invest in motorcycles for fun. I love cars though but the difficulty of making money playing music means I can only buy a car for practical reasons rather then because I love the car. Cool thread though!!

I'm a certifiable car/motorcycle lunatic, from way back....

I've always said that if I could play a bass as well as I turn wrenches and create gobs of horsepower in muscle cars - I'd be famous.

Unfortunately I can't because I started way too late in life so all I can do now is play & practice as much as possible.

I also see how my affinity for older classics rolls into my musical decisions regarding basses.

The same way I see a gem in the wreck sitting on the side of a house that "Jimmy" never got around to restoring, I see the beauty of an older, (not so popular) bass in a pawn shop that nobody else wants.

I know.......I've always been weird:laugh:

Ok, I'll bite. I think there is a corellation between my car and bass because there is subtle coolness to each rather than flashyness, neither of which I have a problem, just not my personal style. The bass has evolved over time to fit my taste but the car is still stock.

I've carefully bought gear capable of fitting in the car's small spaces. The SVT in a 6u goes in the trunk and the bass and 212 cab go inside the car.

I wanted silver because it is the most 'stealth-like' in traffic and with 420hp, it's like driving a roller coaster to work every day. I prefer the natural look of unpainted wood on basses.

I drive a 2005 Toyota Scion XB. Because it will hold two basses, two 4x10 cabinets, a floor monitor or two, a suitcase full of gear, and a passenger. It is basically a box with wheels on on the corners. In some respects like my favorite P-Bass, a '51 Fender reissue: No frills, kinda boxy, gets the job done.

I'm a car guy, but I'm not into modding them. I'm also not into modding basses. I appreciate both for what they are.

I'd drive a car for looks, performance and handling anytime rather than practicality. To me practical cars are toasters with wheels. No interest.

Just sold my Nissan Murano (very comfortable, good power, but boring) for a 2008 BMW 32xi Sportwagon with a 6-speed manual tranny. MUCH more fun!!! (Also very comfortable, but more work to get in and out of with the sport seats.)

Count me in! I'm a huge car geek, have been all my life. My day job is as a Honda salesman. I love driving and I love cars.

That being said, I can't afford extravagance in either hobby. I have three basses (all sub-$200) and my daily driver is a 2001 Toyota Camry LE with 125k miles. I also have a 2010 Honda Odyssey LX with 76k miles.

If I could afford a newer car I'd get a 2013+ Accord V6 Coupe with the 6-speed manual. But alas, I love my Camry and I love my Odyssey. The Camry is like a P-Bass- reliable, comfortable and it feels like a worn-in pair of jeans. I will keep it until it does and likely buy an Accord. I'm a practical man
