Curious - Basses & Cars from TB'ers - Any Correlation?

I am a car guy, yet I don't technically own a car myself, which leaves me a little $$ for buying gear or (very soon) funding college tuitions.

I work for a car company, so in a sense, I guess I would fit the role of an endorsed artist, since I drive whatever car I am assigned for 4-6 months at a time. Current ride is a 2015 GMC Acadia Denali. GREAT for hauling gear and roadies.

My wife drove 2012 Volt until our lease was up about a month ago. Waiting for the 2016 Volt to come out in a few months before we replace it.

If I were to purchase a car now, it would be either a Corvette Stingray, a Corvette Z06, or Cadillac CTS-V. Fits with my choices in basses...very stylish, very pricey, a lot of options, and waaay more power than I would ever legitimately need.

Basses:
  • Alembic Series I 4-string
  • Alembic Series II 5-string
  • Music Man Sabre (x2)
  • Music Man Stingray
  • Fender AmDlxPV
  • Marchlewski 5-string

That Marchlewski is incredible. Wow.

I love stylish, well-made cars and stylish, well-made basses.

For vehicles, I'm quite partial to the VW/Audi/Porsche family, and have a long history of owning them. It would be really difficult to consider or own anything from a different maker.

For basses, my favourite instruments are, generally speaking, custom/boutique builders (did I mention how gorgeous that Marchlewski was?). I don't care much for anything "mainstream" or mass-produced. That said, I am a huge EBMM fan, and if I have to go with a mainstream instrument, it'll be one of their models (especially Sterlings).

Again, can't resist, and again - apologies to those who have seen this previously. Here is the 1929 Ford Model A I inherited from my father and restored in his and my uncle's honor. She is "Bernadine" and has been featured in Car Kulture Deluxe magazine and Pinups and Kustoms in Sweden. She has also won the top of her class trophies in four car shows, one in Indiana and three in New York - all with 200 to 400 cars on display.

I also sent my MIJ PBass to my builder in indiana and had him spray it Hot Rod Flatz black which is on the car, and then I had the same elderly "old school" pinstriper stripe it to match the car.

The entire restoration of the car is here: Restoration of a Hot Rod...

The Pinups and Kustoms article is in three parts, and the first two parts are here: Invalid Link Removed

Hope the car freaks enjoy - this is one special "old school" hot rod....

Absolutely wicked combination...... both car and bass look fantastic.

[QUOTE="Jah Wobble Fan, post: 17257374,

As for myself, I am in that camp of TBers who disregard their car so as to spend more disposable income on guitars. Plenty of that type here too.[/QUOTE]

I'm definitely in this camp, even my cheapest bass(Marcus Miller jazz) is worth more than my car(rusty 96 Subaru Impreza), but my car is the most reliable I've owned yet(kinda like my jazz bass, though its not my favorite)...ive always been about music gear before gadgets, cars, whatever....i don't even own a TV anymore...if I had more $$$$ I would though;)

I drive a 2002 Camry because it's extremely reliable, low maintainance, very comfortable, and it doesn't steal money from my gear addiction.
And it has enough room to transport me, my gear, and (sometimes) my wife to gigs.

Currently, I have 5 "permanent" basses and the ones that get the most play are my Stingray 4s.
I play them because they are extremely reliable, low maintenance, very comfortable, and they satisfy my basic needs for gear addiction.

I'm all about practicality and adaptability. I've got to be able to do a lot with a little, which I think is pretty well reflected in my car and bass choices! I've got a 97 5 string American Deluxe Jazz as my primary bass, and a 2002 Mazda Protege 5, which is a great hatchback/wagon with lots of room for gear in the back :)

I drive a blue '73 Beetle and have a hot rod red MIJ Jaguar. So I guess I like things with character  I dig all pretty much all cars pre-1980 (as well as cars 2014-on). I dig old workhorse basses (US peaveys) and things like Dingwalls and Mayones. Standout classics and new innovations for me

My Mustang on the other hand, far from stock

But why would you keep the other basses stock and not the Mustang....oh, you mean a Ford, not a Fender. ;)

My car (8 years old) and truck (13 years old) are both paid for and running, and not having a monthly car payment has left enough to get some nice toys over the last year. Next year will be a little more difficult, since GM is supposed to be coming out with a new Grand National/GNX, and I'm guessing that EBMM will have something special for the Stingray's 40th anniversary.

It's really pissing me off that the lottery keeps picking the wrong numbers.

Nice thread!

To be honest : I'm not really a car lover at all. I do like some cars, but I just see them as something that will bring you from A to B. Some people only focus on one brand, others tend to focus on the technical aspects, like what engine a car has and so on. About 2 weeks ago, I bought a beautiful Fiat Punto 1.2. The car is 15 years old, but is in great condition. The timing belt has been replaced about 1,5 year ago or so. The car has only 127.400 km on it, and the timing belt was replaced with a new one when the car had around 102.000 km on it. The clutch has been replaced with a new one about 5 months ago.

It's my first official car and I'm very proud of it. I don't care if other people don't like it. My money, my car, my pride :) But to say if it's bass related or so : not at all :p
