I chose tort before I even looked at the pics and I was, as I almost always am on this subject, correct (unless it's gold anodized, in certain cases)! But this thought crossed my mind - Y'know how some bass mfrs. use magnetic battery access covers? How about doing that for Jazz bass pickguards? Being as how the pickguard isn't integral to a Jazz bass' function, you could just swap 'em out like a different shirt or pair of shoes! Like those old Novatone fingerboards!

I think it's too busy with the pearloid, though I've never been a fan of that look of pickguard. Torts what my J came with and while I like it, I've always been a fan of the naked/clear look. I think yours would look rad and nowhere near as grimey

Thick single ply black will pull it all together into something that seems like a well considered "look," with aesthetic continuity, and IMO a mature, serious, and classy vibe. The busy guards like pearloid and tortoise just look like somebody 12 years old mindlessly sticking cheap flash onto something, without any serious aesthetic thought behind it, leaving the bass looking kind of goofy in the end.

I voted white pearl only because the tort is too red.

My choices would be:
  • Brown tort
  • White
  • Maybe white pearl (photo makes it look too golden?)
  • Black

Not red tort
Not mint (let me remind you green is the color of motion sickness and mint is light green :) ).
