Current Cabs With No Tweeter?

i play mostly GK amps thru Subway cabs, a variety of basses, a a medium sized board with a bunch of dirt pedals, lo, med, high, and OMG gain levels.

Now, the Subway cabs are great. But certain combinations, usually an active bass and certain drive pedals, there’s unpleasant high end even with the tweeter rolled right down (not off, no such thing as off). So I thought I’d ask what’s out there these days current production, no tweeter. Maybe you’ve experienced similar and have a specific suggestion.

I usually have PA support, don’t want or need a fridge, not interested in the 210AV either.

I haven't played it (or the Subway cabs), but, if you like your current cabs otherwise and aren't averse to running another pedal, you might look into the DSM Noisemaker Omnicab Sim. There's a big thread in the effects forum on it. (EDIT: Here's the link: NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim)

Tweeterless cabs: The Audiokinesis Hathor series by Duke Lejuene. Most anything Mike Arnopol makes can be ordered without a tweeter (tweeter optional on those cabs). The Baer ML cabs.

Most of the three-way cabs available from small builders can be ordered as woofer+mid cabs, sans tweeter, or can be ordered with an on/off switch on the tweeter that takes it fully out of the circuit and, in many cases, lets the mid driver run open to the top of its range.

Sounds like you just simply need a low pass filter. No use in downgrading your cabs when there's a proper fix to the problem.

Adding the HPF/LPF is the way to go!

Now, the Subway cabs are great. But certain combinations, usually an active bass and certain drive pedals, there’s unpleasant high end even with the tweeter rolled right down (not off, no such thing as off).

Funny...my cabs with tweeters have tweeters that don't put out sound when you turn the knob down all the way. Have heard some that don't, but they're usually a lot older and not very common. Also, you can bypass the entire tweeter circuit and just wire the woofers up to the jack.

Dunno why I didn’t think of that, I already have their hpf on my board. Ordered the combined unit!
