So, I am just now starting to put lots of effort into writing my songs, and I was wondering, should I avoid using buss words in my songs? I'm in High School, and I'm sure my dad would be a little upset with it, but other than that, I can't see any other reason to avoid using them. If I ever play at a family-friendly venue, I can simply change the words. But still, do you recommend excluding offensive words from my songs?
Really? How so? Just look at the most common one ... the f-bomb. It means absolutely nothing in most contexts, and there are synonyms in others. I agree that it's indicative of a limited vocabulary.Every so often profanity is needed to convey your thoughts precisely.

- just compare the responses of those whose replies include profanity with those who don't ... see what I mean?
LOL. In the Marines, a buddy and I would see who could use the f-word the most times in a sentence. It meant putting it between syllables in every polysyllabic word. It seemed very funny at the time.

There is nothing punk about worrying about offending your Dad over lyrics!
Every so often profanity is needed to convey your thoughts precisely. Usually though, it's just a crutch that supports a lazy or limited vocabulary.
For instance, if you were to use the word F*** when you hit the biggest climax in your catalog of songs, you would give it much more power and impact than having 20 songs that infuse profanity as though it were the word "the".
I write songs with cuss words in them. Not to excess, but if I feel it's needed I'll throw one in there.
Always consider your audience. You will probably never have someone say, "they are a pretty good band, but, I would REALLY like them if they cussed more." It is very likely you would have someone say, "I like that band, I just wish they didn't cuss so much."

it's punk, so it kinda fits
