Custom bass stolen

That's a really unique looking bass. I'd take your photographs and go to every music store and pawn shop in the area. Maybe the thief has tried to sell it. It may yield a description of the perp, who must be pretty stupid to steal such a distinctive instrument. By all means contact local law enforcement and make sure they have a picture of it. I'd be willing to bet that there are websites that would get the word out. I'd ask the music stores and pawn shops how they protect themselves from buying stolen instruments, I have to believe there's a registry of some sort.

Were there any other items that are missing in addition to your Bass? It might help if you described the circumstances of the theft. Perhaps there were surveilance cams in the vicinity, I'd check on that too.

Good luck.

Tom

Burglars stole me this bass last week, I'm inconsolable.

It was tailored made for me by a good friend, it represents hours and hours of love and care.

Please tell me if you ever see this bass in classified ads…

Absolutely awful. However it’s a unique enough bass that it should be easy to spot. Burglars are generally not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier so I’m sure if they try to hock it they will go right to the nearest GC. Keep checking your local Craigslist, Reverb, local guitar shops. Do you or any neighbors have a ring doorbell camera that would have possibly caught a glimpse of them? Also not a bad idea to contact a local news station. Give them the story of your journey as a musician and how a good friend made the instrument, they’ll eat that right up. They do stuff like that all the time on my local news. Keep us updated on the hunt, I hope it turns up.

That is a gorgeous instrument! I hope you get it back. It is unique enough that hopefully you can recover it.

I really hate thieves. I was a victim of theft once, fortunately I eventually recovered all 3 stolen basses, but the thief walked as there was no witness to place him at the scene of the crime. He lied and said he bought them from another known thief, a person who had conviently skipped town a number of weeks earlier.

I had to work closely with the detective, who the entire time tried to get me to inadvertently confess to criminal activity. It took months to recover the last bass, too. It was recovered by sheer luck. I am glad the detective working the case was astute enough to grab the opportunity when it arose or I would never have recovered it.

So sorry to hear of your loss. You feel so violated when someone steals you musical instrument. Did you fill out a police report yet? Be sure to do that, so when/if it turns up the police have a record of it being stolen. When my '65 Jazz was stolen from me in 1976, it never did turned. But if it had, the police had a record of it being stolen from me and recovery would have been pretty straightforward. I've replaced my original Jazz with what is admittedly a rare Jazz bass, it's no my '65. And, that's nothing compared to an instrument that was tailored to your needs/wants and also made by a good friend.

I’m wandering if we shouldn’t put a GPS chip on our precious basses in order to retrieve them in such situations. Kind of crazy these days !
My DNS cabs by DNA have a chip in them that you can scan so there's no question who the cabs belong to. Same type of thing as you use for a pet's id. The chip is inside each cab and I had to register the chip number with the company when I bought them.

I wonder how that could be done with a bass in an area where it wouldn't interfere with any electronics and still not be noticeable?
