Argh! I've seen it today, and now I want it even more!

For those who have been in the club for a while you might remember I have been waiting for the SEI 9 string bass. I got to pick it up last week and it is just brilliant. Beautiful appearance (imho), wonderfully low action, superb sound and easy to play.

I have found pictures of other peoples basses strangely helpful whilst waiting for my bass. Therefore whilst I recognise this bass will not be to the liking of many on Talkbass, here are 3 snaps of it:

I am usually not a fan of monstrous ERB's but....
:eek::eek::eek:
That thing is awesome

All, thanks so much for the kind comments about the SEI 9.

Tonally it was designed around the classic fingerstyle funk tone which it absolutely nails, but the combination of the Delano 'Musicman' style pickup and the flexible Audere circuitry means it can go anywhere from a deep Jazz type tone through to a very reasonable slap tone. The Graptech acoustic guitar (not bass) module provides a great acoustic guitar sound on the top 6 strings (tuned D-D) and midi output ensure plenty of other options.

Wenge neck, right?

Anyway, I figure you will be playing mostly contemporary jazz stuff with this bass, am I right?:D

Although, imagine the looks on people's faces if you bring this to a pop or blues gig...:hyper:

I received some updated progress pics from Barker Bass for my fretless 6 string (actually, I received a ton of photos :)), here's a few fairly self explanatory pics of the chambered body in the making:

Yup, I am out and am in fretless bliss!

RedLeg, great looking bass!! The electronics cavity cover on the rear looks huge, but considering what's in there I'd imagine you need the room ;)

Got an update myself on my Barker B6, some pics just came in over the weekend .....

Nice pointbass!

My custom fund is growing as we speak, soon to be around €3000. I'm getting a great deal from my luthier, so right now I have aprx. 6/7 or 6/8 of what I need. We haven't discussed thoroughly about woods yet, which affect the final price.

I have decided on some specs though. 18 mm spacing (5-string), neck pickup a tad closer to the bridge than usual for added punch (especially with pickups 50/50 blended) and passive circuitry but with active midboost with sweepable frequencies.

I have come to favor passive lately, but as an active bass guy I use the mid control a lot, hence my idea above. Neck will be extra wide at the nut for comfort all over the neck.

Some updates on my ACG

The first picture I got (Camphor top and Sycamore fingerboard):

Then the neck was glued up (Padauk/maple/wenge)

Then the body was glued up and carved (camphor back and top, sycamore accents, spanish cedar core)

Well it was a year this past June, since I sent my first payment and it will be the first year anniversary this coming October since my second of three payments went in.. Still no bass and no pics of the bass since last fall with the initial work. I'm getting frustrated as I've had little or no communication from my builder. Not only am I disappointed personally because I like the guy, but he has already cut into my top and done some of the body work - but all of it last year. To be fair the builder has had some personal things happen and communicated them, and I've been super understanding and patient. But that was a while ago and it seems like I always have to reach out to get some kind of update. How long is a reasonable time to wait for a custom - particularly when the agreed upon wait time was only 8-10 months? A refund wouldn't work because the top and body woods have already been cut.. Do you think it's right to ask for a discount? Now mind you I've only occasionally asked for an update, about every 3rd month. But even then, the info was sparse. What would you folks do? I just want my bass without any drama or hard feelings... I've got one payment left, which puts the bass close to 3k - which I've already paid 2k for... Help!:crying::mad:

Pete Hanewinckel quoted 16-20 weeks for my bass. It was about 20 weeks when we originally shipped the bass to me. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the pickups being microphonic, so I ended up having to send the bass back to Pete H. He has wound new pickups, potted them, and installed a Villex Passive Rotary Tone Booster, and the bass is due to be delivered at my doorstep sometime tomorrow. So, in total, it has been 26.5 weeks since Pete received my deposit...
