Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

Almost done:

I'm seriously blown away by your instruments. Do you have any recent recordings, even just casual noodling? I've heard some on your FB page, but I haven't been on as much lately. If you could post some, I'd really appreciate it...I'm getting more into high 6 string (E-F) playing, but I still consider myself a hack in that context, so I like to hear what others are doing. An acoustic is also one of the few things I still feel like I'm missing.

I suppose I could post some basic demos at some point. I need to get back at it. Shortly after those clips, my creativity stalled out. I spent too much of my summer and early fall trying to get back fitness I lost after a high speed cycling crash in April.

I enjoy being an omnivore with guitar and bass. For whatever reason, acoustic has become my solo instrument of choice.

I'll try to get some stuff recorded when I get back from a long overdue vacation. I suppose it can't hurt posting some noodling to give ideas of the sound. I tend to be leery of posting my own songs unless the clips are really good. (Online) critics can be really harsh. ;)

Got an update from Martin at Zon. Progress! Bass ordered in early June, with 8 month ETA given at the time.

Custom Sonus 519, headless.

OK, I'm now back out of the club. I got my Zon last Thursday. Roughly 9.5 month turnaround, which I'm perfectly fine with. I'm mostly a blue-collar support player so I went with "bass-ic black". More details in the Zon Club thread.

My friend Jonathan Reiner (JGR) of Reiner Amplification is playing it below. I was hanging at his place yesterday afternoon. Most of the gear (preamps, amps, and cabs) was built by him.

I'm back in the group and have been for while but forgot to post pics. I'm having another Custom Devon built with Alder body and Stunning Cocobolo Sapwood top with 3 piece Maple neck and Ebony fretboard with oval Abolone inlays. Bass will have Aguilar OBP-3 pre and Nordstrand DC5 pickups with Coil taps for each and Vintage passive tone control. Matching Ebony, Sapwood, and Cocobolo wood knobs to match. These basses are the best I've ever owned.

Sweet bass, but c'mon.... what make and model? And how long did it take?

Thanks dude!
It's another ACG, I've not played anything but for many many years now.
This bass is basically the spiritual homecoming of my original ACG, which I sold on several years ago, but miss terribly, this one >>

Since having that original bass, my tastes have changed a bit, so this bass is similar to some degree, but I've swapped out some of the specs.
The main changes are that it's now a 6 string, and 31.5" scale, rather than a 33" 5 string.
I've gone for Black Limba for the body instead of Swamp Ash.
The fingerboard is Pau Ferro instead of acrylic impregnated Bloodwood.
The pickup is moved back a hair towards the bridge.
And finally, it's got and East Uni-pre rather than the ACG filter preamp, which works much better on a 2 pickup bass, at least for my tastes.
It's got a 3 piece Wenge neck like the original, gotta love a bit of Wenge!
The changes give the bass a bit more bark and heft, with a softer treble, plus it's even more compact and playable, albeit a bit more weighty.

I'll take some more pics when I get a chance in proper daylight, and hopefully do some recording too, glad you like it though!

Eude

And in again... Probably a couple of rough years ahead of me :-( (last custom build took 21 months)

:D

Original plan was for two extremely tricked out 5 string Series II Spoilers (fretted and fretless) but those were a bit over budget... So I decided to go for:

Alembic
Europa 5 string (Body and headstock)
Solid plain Maple body
Flame Maple + Purpleheart neck 34 inch
Red side leds
Solid Black finish, blank back of neck and headstock
Black(est) hardware and tuners
Plastic or black powder coated backplates (if that's possible)
Series II electronics with Newsted style layout
Black TMOP inlay with fc on the 12th (same style as my Elan)

And if the budget allows I will get a quote asap for:

Spoiler 4 string
Solid plain Maple body
3 piece "classic Spoiler" (plain) Maple neck 32 Inch
Zebrawood back of headstock veneer
Solid Black finish, blank back of neck and headstock
Gold plated hardware and black tuners
Plastic or black powder coated backplates (if that's possible)
Series II electronics with Newsted style layout
Black TMOP inlay with FC on the 12th (same style as my Elan)

Gonna look something like this:

(sorry, best pics I could find. If you want a better look there are plenty of Youtube vids, look for Metallica live between 1991 and 1994)

Hmm... I haven't seen this thread before. I guess I'll add the 2 I'm waiting for.

1. Spector NS-6H2 in Tiger's Eye over Quilted Maple. It should not take too much longer. The last time I asked, Spector was awaiting pickup shipment from EMG. Here is the most recent progress picture:

2. Carl Thompson Semi-Frills Fretless 6. Deposit sent January 2019. Having followed a few TB members with orders, I don't expect this until sometime around March/April 2020.

That Tiger Eye Quilt is insane and one of the prettiest tops I’ve ever seen.

I’ll post the 2 basses I’ve had custom built and received this month and 3 months ago. The first one is my Custom Devon Buckeye Burl and probably the best bass I’ve ever played. Just a fantastic bass in every regard with my favorite electronics. The 2nd is a Custom exhibition Grade Blue Quilt Roscoe. It’s a fantastic bass but the pickups are a little to warm sounding for my taste.
