Custom build neck questions!

I am super comfy on my 60s reissue Jazz bass, but it just doesn't have the tone I want for my more rock n roll gigs. I am thinking of building up a P bass.

Can you guys weigh in on some of my neck questions?

Do people switch out p-bass necks for jazz necks? Is this a common mod? In the Allparts catalogue, it seems the heel joint is the same width, so it should work, no? Especially if it is not yet drilled?

Next question: Allparts vs Warmoth vs anywhere else you can get a neck? I have talked to a very experienced touring guitar tech who says the Warmoth necks are junk and totally unstable. Anyone have any experience with this? (the Allparts necks are also a bit cheaper...)

All of the necks in the Allparts and Warmoth catalogue have a 10" radius. I am looking to have the neck similar to my vintage Jazz neck with a 7.25" radius. Anyone know somewhere that does these stock where I don't have to pay crazy custom order prices?

As for finishes - I am looking for a maple board, but I like the feel of the unfinished neck. What are the differences you find in feel and sound on finished vs unfinished necks?

And last but not least - frets! I recently played a strat (I am a guitar player too... don't hate me!) with stainless steel frets and they were such an incredible treat! So smooth and slippery and expressive, and the guy has played heavily for 7 years, and has yet to see any wear on the frets! I don't know if this would be as good on a bass... maybe not appropriate? This will be my rock n roll bass, so maybe I should just stick to nickel? Thoughts on stainless vs nickel? Anyone have stainless steel frets on a bass?

What are your neck thoughts?? Thanks!
