Custom Cab Build: 4x10 or 2x12

Hey Guys I wanted to build a cab based on the cabinet of the Ampeg SVT-410hlf using 4 Eminence Deltalite 2510 or 2 Eminence Kappalite 3012HO. What should I do....want my cabinet to be loud but have good low end at the same time without the cone farting.

I have an LDS cabinet with a pair of 3012HO, but the cabinet was built to spec for those drivers.
I used to use a pair of 410 cabs, stacked vertically.

The 410s will get louder and lower, but the vertical 212 is much clearer and more intelligible on stage

For reference, this is the Ampeg SVT-212AV with the grille frame removed. A lot of people like this cab.

When you say build a custom cab, do you mean that you’re doing the work or you’re having someone build a custom cab? The former, go with a flat pack. I’d do the Chris Cole 212.

I think with a 2×12 configuration you get more low end and less weight when compared to 4x10. 12's have also been more durable for me too, I've shredded 10" speakers more times than I can count. I've never blown up a 12".

1) cabs are designed around drivers, not the other way around. 2 12" drivers in the same size box as 4 10" drivers may behave very differently.

2) individual designs of cabinets and speakers can be vastly different from each other using the same size speakers.

3) I tend to like smaller numbers of bigger drivers, for no reason other than aesthetics and something in the back of my brain. Also, dollar for dollar, at least last I checked, you can get more displacement from a few bigger drivers than from more smaller drivers - though this is with enough variance between brands and models that in at least some instances I'm certain I can be proven wrong.

i vote for two 4x10s. divide the cab so there are 2 pairs of 10s in each half of it in seperate chambers. infinite baffle design with no ports and no horn.
