Custom J-Bass (i know, another custom bass thread)

okay, to all of you who's interested to know my luthier, here's a link to Hi5, its his profile. lots of pics of his previous works. and you can contact him there too by sending him a message.

i asked him last night if its okay to post his contact, he said its okay. he's just worried that you won't understand his english, cos he doesn't speak english that much. i told him that just in case you have some questions, i'll be willing to help, like a translator! lol!

so here it is:

by the way, there's a Status Bass on his pics. be warned, its not an original one! the costumer bought the status neck and he did the rest! from body to LED fretboard to hardwares. it looks like the real thing!:)

most of his works are copies of branded basses and guitars. though he got some original designs as well. he just do what the costumer's want, their design or style, to hardwares and woods.

he doesn't have the most of the woods and hardwares, so he order most of them from US as well.

i will come to his shop tomorrow to check if the neck feel is okay for me. if all things turns out correct, then it won't be that long til he finish the bass!!! whooo!!!

i was in his shop few minutes ago, i came there to check the neck profile. brought in with me my Sadoswky MS5 to compare. its almost the same shape and radius as the Sad, just needs a bit of sanding to flatten it cos its a bit round for me. and he showed me the LED, man it was awesome!!!

i didn't have the chance to see the body cos its somewhere up in his house, getting dried. but all in all, i'm very happy with what i saw. and besides, i really trust this guys works, he's just awesome!

he took a picture of the neck side by side with my Sad MS5, it is long! its 24 fret. but it feels smooth and fast!

i asked him when does he think he's gonna finish it, he just said...

"you will get it on happy new year!"

hehehe.

Wow! I looked at the luthier's site. Very nice work indeed. (But i cant seem to fiind his email contact on the site though.:) )

Your bass is options galore... haha.. looking very impressive. We really need to see completed pics of this soon!

hey guys, thanks for all the compliments!!!

i had a talk with Chok (my luthier) today about the tobacco burst. and he know what i wanted now. i told him that i want the burst to be very very light and not too wide, so it could show off the beautiful quilted top and the grains of the swamp ash body as well.

i'm really getting very excited now!!!

well like he said, i will get it on "happy new year"!!!

that will be in 2 weeks!!!

and itzs, here's his email address just in case you want to contact him. and this also goes to everyone who wants to inquire about custom bass.

[email protected]

i will post some more pics once i get them.

thanks again guys!!!

My opinion is the longer the scale, the tighter the B string will be. As far as the 34" scale is concerned, it's easier to play because the fret are closer to each other. The floppiness of the B string will depend on the distance between the string pole (where the string is wound) and the nut. All in all your ears and hands should be the judge of what you define as comfortable.

here's the pics of the body and headstock that i wanted. so you guys will have an idea what kind of color i'm trying to achieve with my custom bass. just a light tobacco burst.

so basically my bass would be like this, maybe lighter and smaller side burst. to really let the quilted top shine!!!
