Custom single cut 5 str for Chris Clemente

600 grit, though 400 would have been just fine, as there were no visible streaks, but I wanted it to feel a hair more satin.
reviving an old thread. A few months ago Chris sent in the bass to replace the frets with banjo sized ones and get some work done on the pickups (I need to re-magnetize them and he wanted to turn the single coil neck pickup into a stacked one).
He just recorded a few tunes for work and sent me the mp3s with permission to share them. I was surprised to hear how good the friggin' thing sounds! It's a testament to the "the sound is in your hands" way of thinking. The bass definitely sounds a lot better in his hands than mine. Plus he's doing three different kinds of things on each tune. Amazingly each sounds like a different bass! He sure can play. Specially "slappening" sounds very much like an MM which I think is the sound he wanted to get when he ordered the bass with that type of pickup. "whoa dance" has a very P sound which is surprising with the stacked pickup in the neck position.

The coolest thing is that we've started discussing a "classic inspired" modified version of the CC model. The best compliment one can receive is a repeat customer, for sure. Especially one as talented as Chris is.

I saw Chris a few weeks ago and he was telling me how much he was digging the bass that you made for him. I have got to get by his place and check it out.
sounds like a Lakland 55-94, to me...that's not a bad thing, either...that's GOOD!
the first clip is very MM like...
the 2nd clip is very VERY Jazz like (great growl)
the 3rd clip is very P-bass-esque...
Chris' playing is very nice...funky and rubbery...
based on the clips...I'd give the Bass a 9.5 on sound alone
but combining it with looks, the dial goes to 11!
