Another fantastic build thread Wilser (from design to finish), really nice work. I like look of the wood selection and hardware, looks great. The finish looks good too. I think the wenge contrasts nicely with the redwood at the headstock.

One thing (and I'm being nitpicky), I think it's a bit odd that the B,E string tuners are spaced further apart than the A,D,G string tuners.

The zero fret is intended to make open notes sound like fretted notes. i would expect it could lead to better intonation.

i guess another benefit is not needing to worry as much about nut slot depth, or in this case, having a nut at all. that is a great looking design for the nut area...

My favorite part is the neck heel - it looks so comfy!!!
If I can ask a question - what does the zero fret do?

Two things, first the 'nutless' idea is not mine. I first saw it on Bee Basses. The magnet held idea I had for a long time and have implemented it on a few basses, but then I found out that Sheldon Dingwall has been doing it for a while, but I did not get the idea from him.

Having no nut will not affect playability or setup for a zero fret bass.

What do you mean by "magnet held" ?

The battery cover is held with neodymium magnets. It's easy to remove for quick changes (doesn't hurt your fingers like the those plastic covers) and is strong enough to stay in place.

0_0 i gotta hand it to ya man, that is a new one on me. how did you finish it to make that wenge such high contrast? and again, does that grain feel like it looks? (A.K.A open) love your basses! just to many things to congratulate you on perfecting, so i'll just give you a general nod of appreciation on this one!

hi, thanks for the nod. the neck and fingerboard on this one is unfinished. I maked it off when I sprayed it, that's why you see the open grain. all other wenge necks I've done so far had a glossy finish with the grain filled, so the grain is completely covered and you can't "feel" it.

how fine did you sand the neck?
I'm assuming you sanded it and did nothing else to it?
