Thanks for the jig info! What a great way to make a neck pocket! My next build will incorporate this jig.

This jig is just to line up the neck to the body, remove the neck and then use the position of the two adjustable ramps as template guides to route the pocket. Keyword being 'adjustable', which brings me to why bother when you can just use a template. Well, since I'm building customs for many different customers and string configurations a single jig will allow me room to route most neck pockets that would require me to make several different templates for the purpose. And even then, it would mean that each neck would have to be PERFECT so that the pocket can be tight and seamless. With this jig I have much more slack on the accuracy of the neck. Set up is a snap! just mark the center line at the bottom of the neck, line that up with the centerline of the body (usually the glue line from top wood) and line up the (already centered to the ramps) center finding rule at the bottom of the body with the centerline and you're ready to go! Setup takes about 5 mins.

Looks great, really makes me want to do a project bass this summer for fun. I've got almost all the parts i'd need-cept this time, i'd be using a prefab neck.

Larry at Gallery Hardwoods is great for wood. The only bass i've built thus far i got the body [black limba, a bit bigger than normal] and fingerboard [stabilized black limba] from him.

Thanks posting these pictures and explantions. It really makes me want to take some classes...namely slotting and fretting a neck.

a friggin' knot! I'm trying to fill it up with CA glue and some ash dust. I'm hoping to make this as seamless as possible. The transition came out good, though. Still need to do some minor blending of the upper 'horn'.

pickup covers just need some finish sanding and they're done. Most likely no more work for this weekend (mother's day and all). Next is finishing the pickup routing templates and leveling the neck to the face of the body.

Bravo! Thread well done! Excellent design, and so far, excellent construction. I especially loved the photo of the neck jig. I'd love to try to make something similar for my neck so my side boards are bolted down instead of relying on only clamps. If you can spare a few more photos of the jig, I'll FedEx you a beer!

It's got a 34" scale and 16mm spacing at the bridge. Hipshot had to make a special A bridge without the little separators between the saddles for this spacing.

Cool shape....I am actually building an 8-string multi-scale instrument just now using a very similar shape but different lower horn.
