body is all glued up and rough cut (still got to get within 1/16" of the line and then use the router and template to get it to size). The neck blank is probably going to get the truss rod channel this weekend and the fingerboard is to be slotted also.

I'm really liking the look of this one, I wasn't so sure of that shape at first but, I really like it now that I see it. That top is going to look insane with some finish on it. Will be waiting for updates, Superb Work!!
Here's an update.
I had to dump a bunch of CA on the top and headstock veneer since the redwood had started to crack due to sudden humidity changes in the area. No biggie, it should be almost invisible once finished.

you should start building basses, then go on the internet and help others with the knowledge you have gained............oh wait......you already do that.....just ignore this post and get back to building then.
hahaha, that's distortion from the wide angle lens, it's not really that big. That's not the headstock yet, it's just a blank. The design will be the same as in the pic on the original post, but without the 'pointy' edges, a bit more rounded up.
The body will end up being just a hair over 1.5". Currently it's at 1 5/8".
That top was supplied by Gallery Hardwoods. It looks a bit ugly and grainy right now due to the CA, but once sanded smooth and sealed, it should be phenomenal.
Good thing you put the ca on there, last time I used redwood for a top I didnt and it took ALOT of coats of sealer before it could be topcoated. Stuff soaks it up like a sponge. Looks great, I like how the curl is on that piece.
I just did the template for the control cavity, recess and cover. I sure hate working MDF, too bad the darn thing is so easy to file and shape smooth.

wenge is becoming one of my favorite woods to carve a neck from. Too bad it's got such a nasty dust ...my nostrils never feel 'weird' with maple.

yeap. and I've got the bandaids on the fingers to prove it! I love to rub the neck with my hands to feel it taking shape, but I sometimes forget how splintery it is ...the pain reminds me right away.
