Cut string too short

Hey guys just need some advice, i just put a new set of strings on my bass. Unfortunately i cut my g string to short :( . so im using my old g string. its not completely dead but is this a problem at all?

Uh oh....this may pose a serious problem. Your bass guitar may spontaneously combust at any moment!!

Unless it doesn't, in which case it won't be any sort of issue. Just a minor tone issue and maybe a difference in feel.

Kidding aside, a G string is flexible enough that you might try tying a square knot in it above the nut on one side or the other of the string retainer. It should hold tension. I mean, other than purchasing a new string, what other choice do you have? I used to do this on guitar strings as a teenager 35 years ago when I ran out of allowance money and a string would snap on me.

That blows bubble gum. With strings at around $30 a set it will really pi$$ you off with a quickness. Did that once at band practice a few years ago and I was so angry I really didn't even want to play any more for the evening after that. About all you can do is clean the old G up as best you can with alcohol or boil it and you should be good to go till next time and triple check those strings before you clip 'em next time!
