Cute lil acoustic mini stack!

Ok so I played an acoustic mini stack, IMO it sounded way better than the ampeg mini fridge which I also played. It's strange cause I normally like ampegs and I generally don't like acoustic amps.

I played a VM fretless jazz, a stingray, a mim pbass, and an ibanez. All sounded great except the VM jazz and I don't like those anyways.


My favorite amps are Eden, but I hear the heads have bad issues. My question is should I kill 3 birds one stone? Get this amp; avoid issues with edens, pa it for bigger gigs, and get into the mini rigs of doom threads :D.


I may be wrong but Imma pretty sure that it was like $299, way cheaper than any eden



Ideas? Comments?

Tommygunn, this is a question I think quite a few bass players will be kicking around, especially after they hear this sweet mini. I've played it alongside the mini Ampeg and i think it more than holds its own when compared to a rig twice it's price. My worry is that it'll have enough for fuller-volume practice and impromptu jams. Also, you probably know there's no XLR coming out so you'll have to mic it. I love the size for home, but wonder if there's enough to play along with loud drums and guitars. Anyone else care to add a thought?

I really don't think it would be able to handle a rock band type situation. If you're doing a little three piece jazz type jam, maybe you can get away with playing without micing it, but I wouldn't want to bring it to a gig where they weren't micing any cabs, and the head doesn't have an XLR, so you'd basically be screwed.

i so wish i had played the acoustic when i went to gc last week. i love that little micro vr (would love it even better with two cabs). but i got distracted by the markbass stuff. you're not the first to say the acoustic sounds better. the stuff at gc doesn't bear much resemblance to old acoustic stuff, but for budget gear it's a decent performer.

IMO It packs pretty good volume for it's size. Great tone, I just thought it was strange that I liked the acoustic mini when I normally don't like acoustics and I didn't like the ampeg mini fridge when I normally LOVE ampges.


It seemed quite a bit cheaper than the ampeg too.


The real question is: Would it be worth buying and putting it through a pa system if needed, or to go ahead and get myself a bigger (watt) amp? Cause it seems to have enough volume for practice, jams with a loud drummer and guitarist, and small (tiny) venues (approx 30 people tops)

TommyG, did you also happen to audition any of the other Acoustic amps like the B200? It's only another $50 more and puts 200 watts out of a 15" driver. It's not as cool-looking and a lot heavier, but as JimmyM posted, a lot of us really like the tone we get for the budget. They've definitely got their own mojo .

The biggest challenge is that you've got a single 10" speaker doing all the work which means you're gonna be driving the pee out of it all the time. You may find that you're miking it all the time when playing with others. It's cool though, no doubt about it. I even kicked the idea around of buying two of them as a side-by-side stack, but they still won't have XLR out and may not be heard on a large stage by anyone else but you.

Check the other Acoustic amps out before you buy anything.

I've often wondered about the capacity of their mini cabs. Isn't the ampeg a 2x10?
I've been wanting to pick up one of these mini heads...not for gigging (okay maybe coffee house), but just for basement practices. I've got an extra B15 reissue cab that I think would work great for places I don't want to carry my tube heads down steep narrow stairs just for relatively quiet rehersals.

I've played acoustic amps before, stacks as well as combo amps. I don't know what I've played exactly because the model names are 'numbers' and that not only confuses me but I forget the models pretty fast, just about the same with all amps... I just know the brand names. But I know I don't normally like acoustics, every one I've tried has been "alright". This mini stack was ballin!

They is great, I don't think you can buy the head separate. But for the money it's great, quite enough for bed room practice and loud enough for a smallish bar. IMO Great for the cash
