Why, it's the ultimate bass practice device!

I can't read a word of German, so I looked up what a ToneRite does. From the website:

The secret behind the ToneRite is its ability to continually produce and efficiently transfer vibrational energy into an instrument. ToneRite safely recreates and magnifies the same physics that naturally occur while playing. This stimulation generates a change to the instrument's integrated components and increases the resonate together as a whole. Not only will your instrument sound better, but the notes themselves will come easier and allow for playing difficult passages with less fatigue. The ToneRite will result in added volume with a fuller and more balanced sound. [Emphasis from the website]

Pure. Quackery.

The notion that the age of an instrument changes the fundamental design somehow is ludacris (faster response, volume). Even if were true, why would playing an MP3 through it for a week change anything? How could you conceivably quantify that? Does the type of music matter, or can it be any sound? Water trickling? Machine guns? Death Metal?

This thing is just one of those newfangled vibration speakers at twice the cost.

As for old violins sounding better than new ones, it turns out that much like bass players, violin players put too much stock into the age of an instrument as well.

The "what if" of miracle-sales will always generate...sales. So, I understand why this conversation is happening. People will buy this nebulous product. Maybe not a high percent here, but a sale or ten nonetheless.

We all love a good shortcut, even if the shortcut results in a destination that is not really that far and turns out to be quite unremarkable. Looking forward to the sound clip 'science' next Thursday dude!

On another note, do they make a product that will relic my Pbass for me? I am too afraid to use a 5/8" rabbeting router bit and rasp just yet.
