CWB 20: Babes and Barbarians

As for the slapping... well... um... let's see.. crap it's hard to make generalizations I guess. I didn't touch any tone controls between the finger style and slapping so really it's in your hands. Striking the string will bring out different characteristics depending on where and how you hit it.. ( cue FM :) )

I do a lot of unconscious right hand muting so my popped notes ring longer sometimes, but I choke them off with my right hand ( another softball pitch for FM)

It's difficult to write anything more about because I'm giggling realizing how anything I say about how to slap it will be easy material for the lovely CWBs.

bottom line, it's in the hands because switching to finger style warms it up significantly. check out the strummed vs plucked chord with the Fodera in the beginning.

The amp is flat on the mid with a slight boost in the bass and treble. ( gives you that scooped funk sound) The basses were flat.

lol - I have every combination of small, medium and large rig, including a variety of DI's into the PA. when you're asked to play bass guitar, upright, mandolin and harmonica you have to be ready for every freakin' situation.

but this gig next Friday is straight acoustic, no amps of any kind, and we love and admire it for that. the acoustics of the venue are great and the audience doesn't talk during songs, which is unusual these days.

later on I'll put on headphones and check out your vids. just trying to get the dogs and mrs c3 to sleep first.

most of the solo gigs I play are like that where the audience comes to actually listen. They are my favorite ones to play. You could get by with a combo when they are listening.
Wish I could check that gig out.

I used to jam with a guy Macica that has a wonderful little mando shop in Schylerville, NY. He's right on the main drag. You should check it out sometime.

Do you have hardwood floors there? I think some of the brightness is the room.
I'm liking that tone, it would punch through well. To my ears it sounds like a Ray, with the thick lower mid and sizzle, but not a huge round bottom. I find them tricky to eq but I always enjoy hearing them live. For my playing I need to feel/hear it in my hands up close to play it. Goofy, but it connects me better to it.

I did that in the garage.

I could feel it in my chest when I was playing.

Hey all, did some craptastic videos for DT last night ( late late last night ) so he could hear how the Aguilar TH500 sounds. I played my Butterfly and also my daughter's Squire Jag for comparison.

Don't mind the ramblings, it wasn't a well planned adventure. I basically wanted to show how the head is able to easily handle a range of sounds, especially going from warm to more biting.

Hope they don't upset any one's dinner

Thanks C3. Honestly, I'm just a finger style guy for 90% of my band stuff. Those are more chunks of my solo tunes so the good DT could hear the amp in different styles. It's funny because as I hear the clips, the amp isn't really even coming alive yet like it does on a gig. It gets much better as it gets pushed.

ha - you love your amps. I'm more of a Genz Benz guy where I just want the amp to be neutral. But I am intrigued by that Tone Hammer, might go for one of those.

As we speak, I am trying to chart out Jack White's cover of I'm Shakin' ==>

You can barely see us because the FMosphere was close to the camera and caused a magnetic disturbance.
The DB750 and GS412 carried the amphitheater, The master was just nearing 10 o'clock. I can't leave that head around small children or animals as it might eat them.

I was a fan of SWR for 15 years, but after picking up this first Aguilar a while back, I sold off all my other heads. Like many people on the site, I've gone through some gear. GB was tops on my list for a micro. Especially after seeing yours, but went for a more consistent sound from rig to rig.

Play what you love and love what you play, right? :)

Oh my:eek: I read it wrong. Two wonderful ladies nonetheless. Very memorable pics, definitely song worthy.

As my uncle the carpenter used to say, "make a mistake, slow down. Make two mistakes, go home." In this case I'll crash. Carry on and rock that acoustic gig C3.

So our fiddle player/mandolin/flat top picker has really been struggling playing the last 2 months. His playing has been going steadily downhill and he'd lose his place in tunes he's played for years. We were really concerned for him and rode him to see the doctor and get checked up. He had some facial indications of maybe having had a small stroke.

Well he finally went to see the Doc and after a priority brain scan we've been informed he has a brain tumor and could be in surgery by Monday.

He's incredibly shy and I've never heard him say a bad word about anyone, just one of those nice guy's people like being around and playing some music with. The only family he has left is the guys in our band.

While we're all pulling for him and helping anyway we can, I'd appreciate if our little CWB community could say a prayer/think positive thoughts for a really nice guy by the name of Johnny Goshulak.

different strokes for different folks - I know we are all bass players, but mando is fun as hell to play and the audience always likes the change of pace. Last gig with the Shoemakers I did four tunes on mando - Hey Soul Sister by Train, Atlantic City by The Band/Springsteen, and Cry Love and Lincolntown by John Hiatt. Sang lead on all but Lincolntown. I'm not really a lead singer but in that band I have to help carry the load.
