If you are asking about FB as a business tool, Lee, I can tell you that my wife resisted using any social media for a very long time for nearly the exact reasons you listed ... but she finally gave in about 2 years ago and her business exploded
She is in a weird business (art dolls) that has negligable "normal people" following it, but with the use of social media she has become very well known in her field.
Example: A few days before Halloween she posted a pic of a custom order she had just completed :
How many people do any of you know that would be interested in a Vampire Bride doll? Yeah, I didn't think so ... but when expanding that pic worldwide, there are a LOT of folks interested in such a thing. FB, and other social media like Pinterest, Etsy, even Twitter, reach out to a huge audience. If you have weird stuff and find that not too many people seem to care about it, stick some junk on the social media pages a few times and watch what happens ...
