CWB: 23 TBD

Okay, so today I'm checking out some of my FB feeds and I get this one promo photo from Schecter guitars...

And I see Lee H has now dedicated his time to playing guitar....

and yes...I really am a sellout. I can pull off being a guitard. I have to really try to be that whiny, but I can do it when necessary

I do not know if any of you have been following this thread but if you have not you need to. Here is one of our own, Jerry - aka BayStateBass at his best...and like father, like son. Check it out: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f32/son-had-his-first-trainwreck-990239/

a lot of awesomeness from BSB and his son there. Not to get into my own war stories, but other musicians can be off the wall sometimes. We as bass players often have to hold things together. And as parents too. Go BSB and son ...

there's a great Ray Charles song "You Don't Know Me." To paraphrase it, "They Don't Know You."

Thanks! I needed that. :)

Yeah, and there's no time in life for people who are so shallow that all they look at is your outside. If someone isn't interested enough to get to know you then let the door hit them in the backside.

My best friend appeared out of nowhere and it's like i've always known her. Things like that DO happen.

I have a bestie like that - although it's a him. The rest - well - I'm working on getting rid of the negative in my life. :)

focusing on your sanity is a lost cause. Water under the bridge... LOL

as for the guys commenting on your posterior... consider a different context. You do not have to date any of them to accept compliments, or torment the crude ones. Torment them until you are bored, then brush them off.

LOL. Okay - I really laughed, too. You're right. My sanity probably is a lost cause at this point. And you're also right in that I don't have to date any of the crude ones. I'm just not sure I have the energy right now to torment them either, so I've mostly been ignoring them. I was just a little overwhelmed by the outcome of such a random thing. Ah well - I've decided that from here on out, when someone from up that way asks me how I am, I'm going to reply, "Simply @$$tastic, thanks!"

that is a starting point. . I see torment in the future of some of those guys (insert ominous snicker here... )

Perhaps - Right now I'm too tied up in the stress of the moving details to do more than gape in awe and wonder at some of the emails passing through that mailbox.

On the moving note - I'm really overwhelmed by the whole process. These people I'm working with are, so far, rather disorganized, and actually suggested at one point that I'd need to write them a check for a sum large enough to bankrupt me in order to get my house sold. Talk about awe and wonder.....:help:

get a new Realtor. Having you pay them to sell your house, so they can take a commission is a scam. it is marginally legal, but still a scam.
If they will try to scam you once, they will do it again. Pull the listing and relist with someone who will work for you, not someone who is trying to get into your pocket

I have a bestie like that - although it's a him. :)

I have one left who is a him, but he has a girl now and moved to the next town to be closer to her and his job.

I've had poor success with making friends long-term with men though. They misinterpret my actions when i'm a bit flirty even though i make it clear from the beginning that i don't cheat on my spouse.

VERY INTERESTING PA,... very interesting indeed.. sorry about your band hope you get to grooving again SOON..:bassist:

Thanks, Tommy!! After seeing my post on fb about the band break-up, a couple of musicians contacted me so there are some possible things in the works. We'll see how it all goes. :)

The band break up was at least amicable. Leaving with everyone is on good terms makes it a little easier. I will miss it, though. The thing I'm not thrilled about is yet again having to cancel gigs. :( But it's out of my control, so I just gotta roll with it.

Heya peeps. The stress of new job, prepping for move, and all the life changes has me basically buried in my own head mostly...been going to the gym a lot trying to work off the stress and focus on maintaining my sanity.

Did change my dating profiles to say Atlanta and I'm not sure how to cope with the results. The good...my emails blew up beyond anything I've ever experienced. The bad news...99.9% of them are all about my backside. Starting to think I should just kinda quit dating entirely.

I'm gonna have to come to Atlanta and be your bodyguard. I'll borrow FM's stun gun in case any of them get grabby with your assets. :D

My two closest girlfriends started Sonic Cherry with me (the drummer you guys have seen a pic of and a guitarist who never learned enough to play a song- also a cutie, but I don't have a pic of her). The band, when it went bad, pretty much killed the friendships. Oddly enough, in the end it was the band I missed more than the friends. Go figure.

My two closest friends here in Ohio are men - the three of us have been friends since I moved here 14 years ago. I certainly don't plan to be in any bands with either of them, though, lol.

I've had a lot more problems establishing a long-term band than I have establishing long-term friends, lol.
Either it's the nature of the beast, or I suck at being in bands.

Wednesday Check-in: Speaking of "assets" we are busting butt here prepping for the West Virginia Sesquicentennial Celebration. The only thing that they haven't suggested having is a two headed camel and I think one of those is on order; thus far the only thing I have accomplished is being able to spell "Sesquicentennial. We are having a fireworks show shot off the Capital roof three nights running and if we don't burn the place down we have concerts by Ronnie Milsap and Lonestar on Saturday. So far I have done three drawings of the stage construction. It is like trying to hit a moving target; too many chiefs to come to a consenus. If you do not hear much from me next week you will know why.

Bands and friendship....my closest friends of over 40 years are guys I played in bands with and I have people I played with that I have not spoken to in over 30 years and never intend to ever speak to again. I find that the best bands I was ever in were much like marriages in the social dynamic and sometimes ended badly...sometimes were simply a parting of ways.

I wouldn't say i'm *friends* with my band-mates... friends are people whom you can tell anything to, hang out in complete silence or be totally crazy and whom you can call at 2am if you need them and they don't ask why. I like them, but I would also probly miss the band more than the people.

My best friend and I go back to the early 70's. We both grew up in the southern coal fields. Both of our first degrees are in art. We have been in two bands together; one of the best singers I have ever heard. He is now an architect and I am a mechanical engineer and we worked together in the same firm for a while and then together as independents. We have told people we are twins from different mothers.

I've had a hard time maintaining friendships over time.

My best friend ever is my wife, we've been besties since 1990 (high school sweetheart).

The biggest problem I have run into with other friends is changing life priorities. I was close with a few guys in my teens, 20's, and into my 30's. Then it seemed like somehow a lot of them started living lifestyles that I didn't want to be part of. Quite a few of them got divorced after having affairs, became heavier drinkers, were back into the bar scene, etc. I was always focused on my wife and my kids, took my job seriously, etc.

When your kids are young it takes up a lot of time, so you don't have a ton of time to go out and make new friends. Plus, being busy at work, sometimes 60 hours a week, keeping my house up, etc., I don't have a lot of time.

I have become pretty close with my son's guitar teacher, the good one I talked about in the other thread. We are close in age, have the same values, similar viewpoints, and we have common interests. Outside of my wife and kids, who could never be replaced in my heart, Troy is probably my best friend. Luckily I have my wife, she's my bestest bud ever.

Couldn't agree more.

Sounds like my buddy Mike and I..except we grew up on different ends of the country. He's from California, but we both served in the Marines. We met while working at a towing company. He was moonlighting as a driver and I was managing the shop. We became fast friends and I can honestly say that I trust him with my life. He's currently in Afghanistan with the Army National Guard.

In bass related news, I traded my relatively new Markbass head for a GK MB Fusion head this morning. The GK sound appeals to me more than the Markbass sound.
