D.C., VA and MD GTG 2011 - 6/26/11: Save the Date!!

Would love to make it - not sure about logistics though.

Any particular reason this will be on a Sunday instead of a Saturday?
There still may be time to arrange for a vacation day on Monday, but most folks have already arranged their summer time off.

First off sorry to all the folks for whom Saturday is the better day!

We've done about 5 surveys on this and Sunday always wins out by quite a large majority.

Sunday afternoon/evening wins out because most gigs for the 'giggers' amongst us are on Saturday night or Sunday morning, early afternoon for the worshippers! Yeah, it means a tired Monday morning for all of us, but trust me unless your operating life threatening machinery it'll be worth it!

I'm going to keep the survey going for another few days. If you haven't completed the survey yet it should only take a couple of minutes and you'll find the survey here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The results so have been very useful and will definitely assist in the planning process as it it continues over the coming months.

Over all there's desire for an earlier start and finish - and we're working on that already. The ticket price information is really helpful in letting us estimate a budget early on. That let's us lock in the clinic, location, time, food, etc. etc. - important stuff!

It looks like a swap meet is something folks want, so we'll definitely try to get that on the agenda. We discussed that for the last GTG but we felt we didn't have the time then. Time is on our side this time.

I think everyone found the AW clinic at the last GTG to be great. This time around there's a majority for more a performance orientated clinic, again useful info us and for the clinician!

The majority vote is for a more structured 'jam' at the end of the day with set songs to play. We have a 50:50 split between set songs and a backing band. We'll continue to work on that.

It looks like the early bird discount is popular. Here's a question for you, would it help if we did it in installments? Say half down at the start of April, half down at the end of May?

Finally, thanks for all the comments. Some great feedback there. We are certainly trying to get more luthiers to come to the event and on that subject we hope to have some news in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Thanks again!

Dave

As you all know were busy planning the upcoming GTG and already things are moving well and we'll have some exciting announcements towards the end of the month, but for now I'm delighted to tell you that we will have a bass to giveaway as one of the main prizes!!

Now, this is a little different to what we've done before, as the bass in question is currently under construction and being built especially for the event by local luthier Darron Morfino. For those that don't know Darron has been building for several years now and he's producing some really great basses. Those of us lucky enough to have played them will tell you how nice they are!

So, the basic spec is one of his 5 string 'super' Jazz basses, but now the cool bit: you have the opportunity to 'steer' the final build. So if you're interested you will find the build thread here.

Go and have a look at the bass and contribute as you feel fit! This should be a fun thing to do, especially as at the end of the day one lucky person is going to be going home with one really nice bass!
